Benson Henderson: I’m going to break Silva’s record in 2016

Anderson “The Spider” Silva (33-5 MMA, 16-1 UFC) is the most dominant champion in the history of the UFC,  having successfully defended his middleweight belt ten consecutive times during his title reign.

Current UFC lightweight champion Benson “Smooth” Henderson (19-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) is confident that he will eventually break Anderson’s record, and has already determined when that might happen:

“I’m going to break it in 2016,” stated Henderson within the locker room of Glendale’s MMA Lab. “I should be able to break it by 2015, but because I’m getting married I’m going to take some time off for my honeymoon. That’s going to set me back by about three to four months. But I have it down exactly. I know when I’m going to break it. It’s going to be early 2016. I know what number I need to get. I know the amount of hard work it’s going to take for me to get there. I know how much I’ve got to get beat up, I know how much I’ve got to practice. I’m aware of it. I know it. Now my goal is to go out there and go do it.”

Henderson defeated Frankie Edgar at UFC 144 in February 2012 to earn the UFC lightweight championship. Since then, he has defended his title 3 times, scoring wins over Frankie Edgar, Nate Diaz and Gilbert Melendez respectively.

Do you think “Smooth” has what it takes to defend his belt another 8 times and surpass Anderson Silva’s record to become the greatest UFC champion ever? Let’s hear it Penn Nation?

Via most boring split decision wins ever nobody wants to see ur ass that long u and Ben askren shld fight till u both retire each other

  2. Big daddy says:

He won’t break it! Eventually he could face Aldo and he’ll break his face.

  3. Kingsforge says:

Even if he breaks it in numbers, he’ll never break it in style. I like Henderson, he’s a good but he’s not an A.Silva tier fighter.

  4. UFC 84 Forever says:

GSP has a better chance of breaking it and sooner. So you might want to consider waiting for that to happen.

  5. Dude says:

So that explains why he’s so conservative in his fighting, plays it safes and wins on cards but never really goes to take his opponents out. He’s a great competitor but not a real fighter IMO

  6. Plowboy says:

Bendo extremely talented, but you all are right. Start finishing some fights, then he can talk like that.

  7. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

No way. Still nine wins to go as of now and Anderson will get another win this year so it will be ten fights to go and probably more because Anderson will keep winning for a while. It sounds like he’s looking past Pettis too, he still has to beat him first……but he won’t. Even if he does beat Pettis and manages to rack up enough wins to pass Silva after he’s retired, just because Henderson doesn’t win his fights in dominating fashion and doesn’t finish his opponents he will never get the same status Anderson Silva has.

What a f-in loser, he can’t beat it because he has a fake record. Fakest champ in UFC history. Lost to Edgar twice, and lost to Melendez hahaha. Hope you guys see through to truth.
