Benson Henderson Anticipates Rematch With Melendez In The Future

“At 155 the division is so stacked, so deep, the top five guys are like this far apart – they’re very close the top-5 guys, the top-10 guys at 155. Do I imagine I will be seeing Gil again? Yeah I’ll be seeing Gil again and he’ll want to beat the crap out of me, so, I’ll be seeing Gil again I don’t know if it’ll be an immediate rematch. If it is, it is. Cool. Sounds good to me let’s do it. Let’s run it back. But there’s a lot of guys at 155 that a pretty tough who all want to beat me up.”

Last weekend’s UFC on FOX 7 main event was a close fought decision between two champions.

In the end, Benson Henderson was able to retain his title by besting Gilbert Melendez in a split-decision victory.

Following the bout, the champ took to the post-fight press conference to praise his latest challenger and proclaim that the two will likely meet again.

Bendo lost period. Even all the UFC fighters and commentators said so. The judges are as crooked as boxing judges these days. Where did bendo win? Oh, leg kicks…LOL.

    • yodaddy says:

Leg kicks hurt…especially wit Benson’s legs and a taekwondo black belt.

      • YoMama says:

What about leg kicks that don’t seriously hinder the other fighters movement? We are not talking about Aldo kick damage here. Everything hurts in fights.

    • hey mama says:

where did gilbert win it then???? what did he do so overwhelmingly that made you think he won the fight?
watch the fight again. there were so many flurries when both fighters were in each other’s face and benson was the one landing the shots, elbow and punches. add that to the leg kicks.
what did melendez do to beat benson? he did get some strikes in, yes.
gilbert was mean in this fight and seem twice the size of benson. but there is no clear cut way that gilbert won this fight. showing up, being big, and doing well just doesn’t win the fight in this case.

I don’t know if he lost ‘period’. I know he landed more punches and kicks. I wasn’t mad with the decision, and i wouldn’t have been mad if it had went the other way.

Should have an immediate rematch. Gilbert won that fight. He got rounds 1, 3, and 5. I may have even given him 2, but Benson was pretty dominant the second half of it. If they scored the fight 48-48, I would have understood, but it was a 48-47 fight for Melendez.
