Ben Askren to fight for ONE FC Welterweight World Title in May

In an interview with Yahoo Sports, former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren (12-0 MMA) announced that he will fight for ONE FC gold in May.

“Funky” went on to say that he will face the winner of ONE FC’s inaugural welterweight world title bout which features Brock Larson taking on Nobutatsu Suzuki.

The Larson vs. Suzuki title fight is the featured bout for the “ONE FC: War of Nations” event, which airs live from Stadium Negara in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia on March 14.

The proposed May title fight will mark Askren’s first bout with Asia’s largest MMA promotion, ONE FC.

ONE FC signed Ben Askren to a six-fight deal that spans over two years. “Funky” will earn $50,000 guaranteed just for showing up to his first bout this May, with another $50,000 in bonus pay should he emerge victorious.

“Funky’s” contract also includes an incentive that specifies his earnings will increase with each subsequent bout, should he continue getting his hand raised.

Are you excited to see Askren make his ONE FC debut? Let’s hear it Penn Nation!

        • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

    • Jamie says:

Not much competition for him in ONE FC, but he’s certainly getting paid

  2. Xaninho says:

He won’t like it because ONE fc has the no inactivity rule, like in the good old pride days. Humping to a decision is not an option anymore.

    • JLee says:

He finished his last 2 fights, only getting better.

      • Xaninho says:

Both not very impressively. Aside from the fact that both fighters weren’t great to begin with, the Russian looked like he was drunk and Amassou wasn’t a finish but a doctor’s stoppage. He won’t be finishing many fighters in the future.

        • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

Wasn’t a finish???? you are so funny…dude really…Do you also deny that Askren totally beat his ass up the whole fight until the doctors mercifully stopped it for a TKO FINISH!!

        • Xaninho says:

He cut him with an elbow and yes from that moment on it was one sided, mainly because Amassou is not that great. Fact is he couldn’t finish him and the doctors stopped it because of the cut.

  3. maddawg1982 says:

he should of signed with the WSOF nobody cares about ONE FC
