you cant do a submission right away to get them to tap.try to get them gaessd up, and tired and also give them a good amount of body punches and kicks to the body.Then try to submit them, if thats not working, when u almost get a knockout when the screen goes greyish, shoot for a takedown and then work a submission from there.
