Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney Says Kongo Not Signed Yet; Hints at UK TV Deal
Today Bellator and TNA Impact Wrestling held a press conference that featured Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, TNA CEO Dixie Carter, and the biggest addition to the Bellator roster to date, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. While BJPENN.com knows you all want to hear what “Rampage” had to say, we want to provide our faithful readers with the actual quotes from Jackson himself, so that story will be published shortly.
However, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney did give some insight regarding other big news coming out of Bellator MMA. Many reports have suggested former UFC heavyweight contender Cheick Kongo had signed a contract with the Spike TV based promotion as well. While it appears that deal will be getting done, Rebney told the press Kongo has not signed with Bellator just yet, going on to say that he has spent months working with directly with the famed UK based Wolfslair gym. So with that news, one could assume a deal with Cheick Kongo will be met within the comings weeks, and Kongo will join his longtime training partner, Quinton Jackson, inside the Bellator cage.
With the newfound relationship between Rebney and the Wolfslair camp, a relationship that Rebney himself deemed “magic,” the Bellator front man also hinted at other big announcements regarding the UK fight scene. Rebney stated that we will be seeing more Wolfslair talent making the move to Bellator, and that the company has big plans for the UK. Bjorn also briefly hinted at a TV deal in the UK, with the collection of Wolfslair fighters helping to build the brand across the pond.
