Belfort Calls Jon Jones The Greatest Fighter Of All-Time | UFC NEWS

“Here I am with 35 years old, 17 years into my career, fighting the best fighter of all-time, in the history of the UFC, a guy who’s the best athlete in MMA. He’s the new breed. I have a lot of respect for the guy, but I’m ready to put up a fight and take the competition to a high level. I’m so thankful for (UFC CEO) Lorenzo (Fertitta) and (UFC President) Dana (White) to trust me and to give me the opportunity. I’m really going to a division that I don’t fight in anymore, but I have history. I think I have the right to go in there and fill (in) as a replacement. How many guys (are left) from my generation?” he asked. “I come from the generation of Tank Abbott, Dan Severn, Mark Coleman, Royce Gracie – that generation. How many guys from my generation are still [competitive] that way? Don’t miss this. Toronto on the 22nd. You guys will see the old lion vs. the young lion, the old-fashoned fighter with the new breed.”
Hitting the FUEL TV airwaves earlier this week, Vitor Belfort told the crew at “UFC Tonight” that he will be facing the greatest fighter of all time at UFC 152 when he steps into the cage against Jon Jones for the UFC’s light-heavyweight title.
Is “The Phenom” giving Jones too much credit for his early success, and if so will this impact his mental preparation going into the September 22nd title fight?
Sound off Penn Nation!

Now that is a respectable man, you will probably lose vitor, but im still rooting for you.
yup old school vs new school. i always have hope for the veterans knowing they still got fire to hang with the young bloods. hope he doesnt get caught so we get to see some crazy action.
Vitor is nuts. We all know Jones isn’t the greatest of all time he is far from it.
he very well may be the best fighter in the world at this moment but you can’t tag him with that label until he proves it with many more dominating victories. I think he has shown to be just as dominant as Anderson if not more so, he just doesn’t have as long of a streak
He may be the best fighter at this moment but without that streak he cannot be labelled as the greatest fighter of all time.
Stfu Silva knows he’d lose to Jones
aldo would lose to gsp, gsp would lose to silva, and jones would lose to overeem… you can’t really go around saying shit like that, people in higher weight classes will pretty much always win.
yeah, and jones would lose to jds. so what?
just like jose aldo would lose to gsp, and gsp would lose to silva, and jones would lose to overeem. the guys at the higher weight classes will always win
And jones would lose to jds, so what?
Jones is still too young to say he is the greatest of all time but I know the EXACT reason why he said that.
He said Jones is the greatest of all times because when he gets KTFO by Jones he can always say its because he is the greatest of all times.
Meh! It’s more along the lines of “theres no shame in getting your ass kicked by the goat”
that’s basically what he just said moron
Vitor playing mind games. It’s a longshot but i hope vitor wins so he can go out in style.
What vitor said is disrespectful to Anderson silva and many of the other greats. Jones is not the g o a t.
Yeah that front kick to the jaw by the G.O.A.T. seems to have made him forget who did it. LOL
He is not the GOAT!!!! Not yet. He still has a lot to prove
Vitor, cut with the mind games and just woop this fool…GOAT yeah right,Biggest size advantage over much smaller guys of all time definitely
Biggest size advantage. That’s interesting. He weighs the same as the person he is fighting. So he holds the weight better than others. Is this really a reason to knock him? Lesnar and overeem are WAY bigger than other heavyweights. Hell, Cain was tiny compared to Lesnar. Look what happened. Hate Jones for logical reasons. I like Jones, but I’m all about Vitor. So please don’t think this comment is on biased or as this site likes to say “nut hugging” status.
hes hiding in lhw. if cain goes down from hw. i bet jones will go down 2 mw. hahaha. chickenshit!
it’s just vitor hyping up their fight, jones is a long way from being the g.o.a.t
Vitor might be trying to blow Jones’ head up.
He might be trying to hype the fight.
Maybe both…
This is definitely a fight to watch though… I didn’t need any hype other than hearing the fight was signed. Belfort has faster hands than Jones, and if he comes out blazing, gets in inside, he can connect with that left and daze or KO just about anyone. This one depends on Belfort… if he comes out apprehensive, let’s Jones relax and find range, get comfortable, he’s too likely to lose. I think Vitor’s left has a better shot at landing than Hendo’s big bomb. His speed and ferocity can win him this fight. Jones is big and he’s a stellar athlete, no matter how much I hate him, but I don’t see how anyone looks completely past Belfort in this fight.
I’m betting on Belfort for pure satisfaction of seeing Jones get KTFO and for the amazing odds that it’s paying. Phenom!!
Vitor. You’re badass. Always been a fan, always will. But stop it. Respect? Fine. G.O.A.T.? Tsk tsk. Too much credit (too soon IF anything).
What the hell is he on? Jones sucks.
Come on, man. You don’t even believe that.
hes from the old school. like the age of knights. “the ways of the old”. they have honor & respect in the old days. thats why he talks like that. not like today. fighters are punks like jon jones. the only thing they honor is cash, check, & indoresement.
i think vitor has a chance but if jones tears thru him who is left?i think gustafson is a good matchup with jon jones and hendo might never get that title shot again.i think the ufc has to get a new face in the lhw division.i say dana should get remy bonjasky. one of the best dutch kickboxers on the planet earth if nobody knows who he is you tube him the dude has phenominal striking.
Vitor can win but he has to maul him quick, like what he did with wanderlei
The whole LHW event is f u c k e d. I don’t know why there trying to salvage it. Take the loss & promote g or the next big event. Henfo getting injured messed it all up
No ! You were knocked out by a front kick by the best fighter of all time ! And you never even threw a single shot ! The spider !!!!!
Sorry Vitor, I know you dislike Silva but you already got KTFO by the greatest. How did that foot smell?
i guess Vitor didnt get the memo or hasnt been watching mma for past 7 years maybe… bc the fact is and this is a FACT …. that his fellow brazilian native Anderson Silva is the Greatest Fighter of ALL TIME, in UFC and To Ever Walk the Planet. Jones is an amazing fighter, who i am not a fan of at all, but no where near GOAT…. or on Andersons level… the only other fighter i would put in the GOAT category is BJ PENN… not a nuthugger statement, reason being ,,, we are talking about a pioneer and legend of this sport, a true warrior and fighter that throughout his WHOLE career moved up and down in weight class and fought anyone at anytime, 2 X World Champ in 2 different weight classes (Only fighter ever to do so aside from Randy) and most dominate LW fighter of all time in history of mma.
lw and mw. fighting smaller guys. dont you dare compare silva 2 couture. hes name doest even deserve to be used in the same sentence w/ coutures name. couture fights monsters like gonzaga while your anderson silva bullies fighters shorter than him. anderson silva is a punk hiding in lower weight classes.
