Belcher Suffered Spinal Fracture Preparing For Belfort I MMA Quick Twit

With all the recent confusion as to who will face Jon Jones for his Light Heavyweight title, several fighters have been left with different opponents in the wake of one of the most baffling stories in recent memory.

One person left out in the cold during all this is middleweight fighter, Alan Belcher, who went from having a fight scheduled with Vitor Belfort at UFC 153 on September 22nd, to having no opponent as Belfort was given a title shot against Jon Jones.

As Belcher stated earlier today on Twitter, however, this shift is a blessing in disguise as Belcher has sustained a serious injury, a spinal fracture. Now Belcher doesn’t have to be the one to cancel on his opponent but instead fly under the radar and have a (hopefully) peaceful recovery before returning to his title run in the middleweight division.

Here is Belcher’s Tweet from earlier today.

Via Twitter @alanbelcherufc:

Everyone’s asking if I am mad at @Ufc @jonnybones @vitorbelfort answer is no. this is a blessing in disguise. I have a spinal fracture.

Thoughts go out to Belcher for a safe and speedy recovery.

Damn Belcher! Hope he gets better quick, I really liked the way Belcher handled Palhares, and I want to see him fight again soon.

  3. GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

speaking of Palharis can you imagine what Palharis could do to one of those pencil sized ankles Jones has? He could snap one of those like a twig. Someon eneeds to smashe Jones ankles just like he does all his opponents knees

  4. magoo says:

That sucks,I wish you a quick recovery your one of my favorite MW, the other being Weidman. I’m thinking with Vitor exiting his fight with Belcher his replacement most lIkely would have been Chris, glad that didn’t happen. But on the bright side the door keeps opening wider for Weidman to get a crack at Silva!

  5. MMACRAVER says:

    OW.. right in the spine.

  10. killa kill says:

belcher is so well rounded, unfortunate he is plagued by so many injuries…. Belcher vs Weidman for next shot at spider silva. would be a great, an unpredictable fight and both have the best shot at legitimately challenging silva for the middleweight belt that hasn’t seen an exchange in over 5 years. Silva is the modern day Bruce Lee for real but which ever one of these fighters could come out victorious pitted against the other deserves the honour of stepping inside the cage with the living legend himself.

  11. Dick Diaz says:

this injury sounds a bit serious; i wonder if november is too early of a date…

  12. The Ass Murderer says:

Watch In the next fight he’s going to pull out 3 or 4 weeks before the fight and say he has a brain tumor

  13. DMAC says:
