Antonio Silva Risked Cancer With Former Testosterone Use
While Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva is still suffering the consequences for testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone in his fight with Mark Hunt, he is able to take at least one positive thing away from the suspension. In an interview with MMAFighting.com, Silva discussed his past testosterone use, and how it put him at risk for cancer. While he was one of the fighters who had a TRT exemption at the time of the failed test, Silva claims that the doctor who was giving him the injections of testosterone gave him far too much, saying: “After the suspension, I went to two endocrinologists and they told me I should thank God that I was suspended…They said that if I continued taking the dosage Dr. Tannure told me to, I would have liver cancer in a year.”
The doctor in question is Dr. Marcio Tannure, who is also the medical director of the MMA Commission in Brazil. Silva initially planned on suing Dr. Tannure, but decided to drop the lawsuit, saying “[Tannure] is not only the CABMMA doctor now, but also UFC’s doctor in Brazil, so I can’t fight against my employer. I can’t risk losing my job for that.”
