Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Wants Rematch With Shogun And Coaching Role On TUF Brazil | UFC News

By Jamie McAllister
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira comments in an interview with TATAME.

Following the UFC On FOX Shogun vs. Vera event it was announced that Lyoto Machida would receive the next shot at the Light-Heavyweight Title following his impressive victory over Ryan Bader. In the main event Shogun defeated Brandon Vera, since it was announced that he would not be receiving the title shot fans and media alike have been discussing who he should face next. Names discussed include Alexander Gustafsson, Glover Teixeira and Rashad Evans one man who wants to add his name to that list is Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

“I would love to, it’d be awesome… A dream. It would be very good to me and it would be a rematch of 2005’s fight, which is something people wanna see. If I have a chance to coach the guys at TUF and also fight him, it would be amazing. Rodrigo learned a lot from TUF. He learned more about being a coach and how to make the team united and gathered. On the United States he’s seen by many as the best coach the show ever had and he got even more famous after the show.”

After withdrawing from a bout in April against Alexander Gustafsson due to injury Nogueira says he is back training and will be ready to fight in three months.

“Man, I’m back. I started training this week and I’m training Boxing, Jiu-Jitsu… I just need to train Wrestling more because I’m learning the positions and I gotta earn confidence on it. I believe in three month I can fight again.”

The fight at Pride Critical Countdown 2005 was a back and forth war between the two Brazilians with Shogun taking the unanimous decision. In his last two bouts Shogun has been in battles with Dan Henderson and Brandon Vera  the rematch with Nogueira would likely be another.

As for the coaching roles on The Ultimate Fighter Brazil’s second season it was originally thought that it would be Lyoto Machida and Shogun in the coaching roles. However with Machida receiving the next title shot Nogueira would be an ideal replacement for the UFC with the popularity and profile he and his brother have in Brazil.

  1. CombatRusse says:

I think that Shogun is among the fighters that took most damage during UFC fights
I hope that it won’t affect his health and his chin like what happened to Chuck Liddle

    • danielrchargers says:

yeah hes been Talking ALOT of damage in his last THREE FIGHTS!!
      its terrible
he took the least amount of Damage from Jones i think… just a swolen face..
Vera hit him HARD with alot of BOWS and… and Dan just fucking Raged on his face with his Fist.

  2. Keep Fitch (Forever) says:

What has this brazilian monkey done in the ufc? He ko’d luiz cane who wasnt even top 10. Then he lost to jason brilz. His most significant win was against tito who sucks also tito is just a name. Nogueria brothers and their faggot jijutsu sucks. Only faggots like get rid of fitch forever appriciate nogueria brothers. This hooligan brazilian monkey doesnt deserve to be in top 10 let alone fight one.

    • Wrestler66 says:

I like this idea good throwback fight ! The TUF season would be pretty cool too…. Also Nog beat Brilz !

Also you can’t really complain about rankings Shogun just fought Brandon Vera in a hell of a fight and even Bruce Buffer was in front of Vera in the rankings !

    • B-rad says:

Dude if you dont respect the Nog brothers your either a troll or KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MMA

      • Shameful says:

Both Nogs are has-beens. Their best days were back in pride which is something that can be said about a lot of names. Maybe everybody was juicing in Pride, maybe a lot of folks started aging out of their primes at the same time…but it’s funny how a lot of these names remain as respected as they are without winning.

        • Mike b says:

Wow!!!icant beleive the posts I read sometimes, just cause their past their prime u don’t have to disrespect the guys.b-rad is right tho,I mean those guys are legends of the sport and I appreciate the fights they have given me.and I’m sure true mma fans appreciate it also.

        • Shameful says:

I don’t mean to disrespect them or diminish past accomplishments. I just mean that a win against them right NOW(the Nogs and some other has-beens), does more for a young fighter’s push toward a title fight than it should.
An example would be Bader getting the Machida fight he was not ready for just because he won against a shell of what Rampage used to be.

    • Tapitout21 says:

Hate to break it to you but he beat brilz

    • bunkylomax says:

he would smash you… quit fighter bashing on here…sissy hiding behind someone else’s name..FYI Big Nogs BJJ has been considered to be best amongst all HW all time.

  3. Me says:

Never thought about this fight but thinking about this would be an interesting fight and I’d pay to watch it! But I think Lil Nog is a little bit too down on the rankings so Shogun would have nothing to gain nevertheless it would be an interesting fight and a blast from the past.

  4. GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

    Shogun will lose.

    • Quitcrying says:

His lunch from laughing so hard!! Shogun “wants” a title shot doing this stunt doesn’t help that cause.

  5. Mike b says:

I would love too see that fight again.

  6. B-rad says:

This fight probably wouldnt be as good as the first one but it would still be an awsome matchup

  7. 757 says:

Here we go again with the racist stupidity comments out of stupid people. Keep Fitch forever joins the ranks of the dick heads who discredit the site and talking about fighting by saying stupid shit. Calling Nog a monkey just is ignorant. Each time people talk like this it brings discredit to the site, and proves how ignorant you are. Comment about the sport without the racist bullshit. Race doesn’t matter the sport does. Grow up or go away until you do.

  8. maurice says:

@757 thank u man. its a damn shame ppl spew racist dumb shit outta their mouth, just because they are pitiful human beings with anger built up inside of them. i wouldnt dare speak badly about another race, i dont even see the point in doing it. i would neva stoop that low.

anyways. judging by both mens last fight, lil nog might beat the living hell outta shogun, especially if its a 5 round fight. tito aint the best fighter out their, but he was completly dominated from start to finish by nog. some of the most brutal body shots from the guard ive ever seen in mma. not to mention nog power and boxing mechanics. this isnt a fight i ever thought about, but god i would love if they did it again. and who gives a fuck about rankings, VERA of all ppl just headlined a fucking fox card against the legend shogun. lil nog has to be top 10. make the fight happen dana. both guys would be incredible coaches as well on TUF.

  9. CANADAN1 says:

Lil Nog has wins over Hendo, Overeem 2x, Matyushenko, Sakuraba on his prime. This guy is a legend all you WWE Fans who just joined UFC dont know fuck all

  10. 757 says:

I am glad some people get it. as much as people complain about the site they should take it upon themselves to make it better by talking about the fighting not people’s race and things like that…..Take some responsibility to raise it up not bring it down. I have to agree with you assessment of the fight too……awesome match up
