Anthony "Rumble" Johnson Signs with The World Series of Fighting | MMA NEWS
According to reports, former UFC welterweight Anthony “Rumble” Johnson has signed a deal with The World Series of Fighting. Johnson will face D.J. Linderman on the main card which will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network formerly known as The Versus Network.
Johnson has been extremely busy since being released by the UFC in February following a loss to Vitor Belfort. The bout between Johnson and Belfort was to be Rumble’s middleweight debut after years of torturing his body to make 170lbs, but he failed miserably and the fight was contested at a 197lb. catchweight.
Just four months later Johnson agreed to meet fellow UFC veteran David Branch in a middleweight bout at Titan Fighting Championships 22, but again he couldn’t make weight and the match-up was changed to a catchweight bout of 195lbs. Johnson defeated Branch via unanimous decision and then decided to fight as a light heavyweight.
He has had two fights at 205lbs., winning them both. He defeated Esteves Jones by 2nd round TKO at Titan FC 24 on August 24th and less than a month later defeated former UFC middleweight Jake Rosholt in the second round with a head kick TKO.
The World Series of Fighting will debut with a card full of big name fighters including Miguel Torres, who will join BJPenn.Com Radio this Sunday, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski, Bobby Lashley, Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante and many others. Former kickboxing great Ray Sefo is the organizations President.
