Anthony Pettis vs. Donald Cerrone targeted for January 26 event | UFC News
A long-awaited bout between lightweight contenders Anthony “Showtime” Pettis (15-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (19-4 MMA, 6-1 UFC) is nearly set.
“Showtime” last saw action in February at UFC 144, where he earned a first round KO victory over Joe Lauzon. The Duke Roufus protege, Pettis, is the last man to defeat current UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson. “Showtime” defeated “Bendo” back in December of 2010, to earn the WEC lightweight championship.
Cerrone is currently riding a two fight win-streak and has gone 6-1 since joining the UFC. His latest victory came at UFC 150 in Denver, where he KO’d Melvin Guillard in the first round. The victory over Guillard earned “Cowboy” both “Fight of the Night” and “Knockout of the Night” honours.
Two of the top 155-pound fighters in the UFC, Pettis and Cerrone were originally expected to do battle at UFC 150, which took place August 11th at Denver’s Pepsi Center. However, a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery forced Pettis to withdraw from the fight.
The UFC is expecting to hold an event on January 26, 2013, possibly UFC on FOX 6. A venue and city for the event has not been confirmed, though sources have stated Chicago is a front running candidate.

cerrone will be killed by pettis, cowboy is good, but pettis is a killer on the rise
Lol, Pettis is the same in every fight. Cerrone could very well take the fight, don’t get caught up in the “Showtime” flash and fight a smart, technical battle he would win.
Oh,hell yeah!About time. This is hard to call tho.these guys both got nasty standup but I think cerrone has a slight advantage on the ground.Im really rooting for my boy cerrone to win this fight.Like I said their both great fighters, but I’m going with cerrone by sub in the 3rd round.WAR cowboy WAR!!!!!
With cerrone being a muay Thai champ and pettis being a 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo this can be a friggin slugfest.Pettis is a purple belt in jiu jitsu but like I said I think cerrone has a slight advantage on the ground, people sleep on his ground game I don’t know why?I don’t like pettis so I’m hoping cerrone can pull this one off.
everyone hates on cerrone’s ground game cause he got subbed 2x by benson
I know they fought twice but I swore that bendo finished him with a guillotine and the other was by decision?I could be wrong tho?
everyone hating on cerrone’s ground game cause he got subbed by 2x by benson, and prefers to stand and bang
This should be a sik scrap!
Dope fight either way! But I’m rooting for Pettis this one!
I thought Pettis was out with an injury, for at least 6 months. Bad move coming back at less than 100% vs Cerrone.
I’m going with showtime..cuz I’m from the southside of milwaukee and I’m also a blackbelt in taekwondo..:)
i love watching the Anthony Pettis kick to benson’s face over and over again….
I think this will be a very even match between two great fighters. Mostly stand-up, but I think they’re also evenly matched on the ground. Looking forward to see this.
I hope Pettis whoops Cerrone’s ass. Cerrone has a big mouth that is always talking nonsense. I used to like him, but his arrogance is unbecoming. Like when he said he wants another shot at Diaz and that he’ll beat his ass in a rematch. The only thing that will happen in that rematch is Donald getting Stockton Slapped the fukk up again!
Headkicks all day. Cant wait to see cerrone kick the balance out of pettis
I think Pettis takes it.Hes got great striking and the taekwondo makes him very creative and unpredictable.Cerrones good too,his mouth just gets on my nerves, plus hes at th fag Jackson
camp.He needs to humble himself,Perhaps Pettis KOing his ass may just do that.
Haha! I basically want all Greg Jackson’s fighters to lose so they go train elsewhere and he goes out of business.
Pettis is a pretty boy fag and I can’t wait until cowboy breaks his jaw!YeeHah!
So you think he’s pretty?
Let me explain what pretty boy is u Dutch fag,a pretty boy thinks that his shit don’t stink! He dosent wanna get dirty, thinks he’s fly, thinks he’s the shit.comprehend!!!!!
