Anthony Pettis Comments on Title Shot Against Henderson

“It wasn’t like nothing happened. I tore my LCL, it’s still a serious injury, but it isn’t as bad as an ACL or meniscus tear. Minimum is supposed to be six weeks out, but I’ve got a good therapist here, and I feel confident enough that I can take this fight,” Pettis stated. “You can’t say no when the UFC calls, especially for a title shot.”

“I actually went back (to training) last week which is the crazy thing. I went back, sparred for the first time, felt good and I was thinking October for Josh Thomson. That’s what I was getting ready for, trying to get back in the gym. The UFC called with the best news of my life.

“I’m even thinking like ‘damn, could TJ Grant be really hurt?’, is this part of some bigger plan? It’s just crazy. The way it happened and the way it’s playing out. It’s one of those storybook fairytales,” Pettis said. “It wasn’t supposed to happen, but it worked out perfectly.

“I was thinking the same thing, like TJ Grant can’t get hurt, this isn’t true. Two guys can’t get hurt in two divisions in back-to-back title fights. I don’t know, it just turned out in my favor. I don’t want to think about it more. This is the biggest fight of my life in my hometown. I just want that contract to come so I can sign it and it can be 100 percent.”

In a recent interview with Bleacher Report, Anthony Pettis explained his excitement to fight Benson Henderson in front of his hometown crowd.

Can he pull the upset and beat Benson for a second time?

Is it really an upset if he beat him the first time? Should be a dead-even fight in my book but I think the Vegas odds will make Benson a slight favorite since he’s done more since they last faced-off.

id love to see Anthony Pettis vs Edson Barboza

  4. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

Finally. That was long overdue. Pettis is the one who deserves a titleshot the most, period.

  5. Jakin says:

The only top 5 fighter he has fought was clay guida and he didn’t do so well. He is one of the best strikers in the ufc and a finisher but I think benson has grown much more and has fought much tougher guys in ufc. Pettis will put up a good fight but his lack of taking fights in the ufc will cost him in this fight .

Well he beat the current champ. And he beat Cerrone. That Clay Guida fight was horrible. A boring display of lay n gay by Guida and one of the worst referees out there, Steve Mazzagatti who failed to stand them up for inactivity with Guida just humping Pettis without doing anything.

    • uhmm what says:

News Flash he has beaten Hendo before.. He has defeated cerrone aswell.. He was a WEC lightweight champ…

Lack of taking fights??? He has never not taken a fight offer… He has just sadly had horrible luck with getting inujured.

  6. Shawn says:

Finally! Been waiting for this rematch for 2 years.
