Anderson Silva UFC 162 Pre-Fight Press Conference Highlights

By JAKE CHASTAIN

| Today (Wednesday, July 4th) the UFC hosted it’s pre-fight press conference for Saturday’s UFC 162 event in Las Vegas and the fighters sounded off for the media attending the event. UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva will be defending his strap on Saturday (July 6th) against the surging 9-0 Chris Weidman. Silva fielded a few questions from reporters and here are some of the highlights from “The Spider’s” answers:

On pressure coming into this fight against Weidman:

“This is normal.  Just another day of working.”

“It’s great to have a healthy competition between the Americans and the Brazilians. The Americans are pulling for Chris Weidman but the Brazilians are here to show that we have respect and we’re well educated. Today is a big day for America and and it’s a big day for us so we’re here supporting the event.”

On the fact that other fighters are predicting Weidman will win this fight:

“This is normal. It’s just simple opinion. I have my opinion, the other fighters have their opinion. It’s normal.”

On being able to stay at the top of the fight game for so long and still remain dominant at the age of 38:

“I think it’s just the happiness of being here and being able to do my job. I think old age is in each one’s head so if you’re happy doing what you love then you’re going to be young.”

“I think when you do something with love and you do what you’re loving, the results can be expected  and the results can be like this. I’m just very happy to represent my sport and to be representing Brazil and be among so many idols. I’m so happy to be here doing my job and doing what I love to do.”

So, after hearing what The Champion had to say, what do you think is going to happen on Saturday night (July 6th)? Anderson is 16-0 in the UFC and has defended the title 10 consecutive times. He’ll be looking for his 11th consecutive title defense and 17th straight win inside the octagon. Easily considered the greatest MMA fighter of all time, Anderson will enter his fight with Weidman on Saturday night not only to defend his belt but also to retain his perfect legacy in the UFC octagon.

After hearing some of the things he had to say at the pre-fight press conference what do you, the fans, think is going to go down on Saturday night? Will Anderson Silva retain his precious gold strap and his gleaming perfect UFC record or will Weidman shatter everything he’s worked so long and hard to build? Sound off, Pen Nation.
