Anderson Silva: "I'll fight for another six or seven years"

UFC middleweight kingpin, Anderson Silva, took to Brazilian media outlet Globo.com recently to discuss the status of his career.
With his manager Ed Soares usually fielding question on behalf of the champ it has been widely thought that the pound for pound king was going to retire once his current UFC contract had matured.
Silva fans can now rest easy because according to him, “The Spider” isn’t going anywhere for a long time.
Good news for the fans, nightmarish ramifications for the rest of the middleweight division.

I would like to respond…this will come off as disrespectful, but there is no intention.
Anderson is a tough dude AND he is a smart dude, don’t let the effimine portugese make you think otherwise. He has hand picked his opponents 80% of the time he has been champ. He has quite a bit of say in who/when he fights (and righly so), and he does not rematch close fights or fight styles that he does not match up well with = wrestlers (go back and find his losses and the closest thing he has to a ***** in his armor is wrestling).
So unless the money exceeds the negative back blow a (bad) loss could cause (he is getting into tv = $$$$ and real high level Brazilian fame, might have his own show like Magic Johnson – hopefully his show will fare better!), he should not take that fight ANYMORE then an undersized GSP should fight Mr. Silva (think the end of Roy Jones Jr.’s career against light heavies).
Better is to build upon his highlight footages, rack up some easy millions and keep his face pretty for ESPN Brasilia!

Because Jones only has one title defense and still has fights at LHW, you guys get way to ahead of yourselves. By the way I don’t know of anyone that want to see this fight besides Jones’s bandwagon fans that think he is unbeatable. I would much rather see him fight Rashad, Machida and maybe Hendo depending on the Shogun fight plays out before he even considers fighting Anderson. Also the UFC won’t make it happen anytime soon because if Jones gets clowned by Andy like im sure he will all his hype will be gone and alot less people will want to see him fight.

Don’t ask for that fight unless you wanna see Anderson get smashed. Thats a guaranteed a** whooping for Anderson if he fights Bones. Jones’ wrestling and ground and pound will be too much for Anderson. Not to mention Jones’ size and reach advantage over Spidey, Anderson is smart he knows that at MW he can continue to cement his legacy as the best ever. I think Anderson would be great at LHW but he’d get smashed by Jones fo sho.
If Rashad loses to Jones (which I think he will IMHO), I would like to see him drop to 185 and fight Mr. Silva.
I like Rashad and all, but he is not ready for those type of problems. He would be better off training with Silva.
I’d like to see Rashad at 185 too, I think any well rounded fighter with a strong wrestling base has a great chance against Silva.

I would love to see the spider fight for another 6-7 years but we all know that this would change if he starts to get his ass kicked. Randy Couture is the only fighter I can think of that had such a long shelf life (maybe because he started later than most??). But I am sad to see BJ and Fedor just fall off the cliff so fast.
BJ fights, he hasn’t been finished since GSP due to corner stoppage. Fedor has been finished in all of his last 3 fights.

Diaz fought Diego back in 2005. Pretty sure he has developed into a much better fighter since then. But what do I know.

Sonnen feels like he has to talk crap to Anderson just to get a fight with him, Chael needs to just be patient. Anderson had surgery on his shoulder recently and at 36 it wont heal overnight. Once healed Anderson will shut Chael up for good, no doubt. That first fight was against and Anderson with cracked ribs, trying to defend a takedown with broken ribs would be tough IMO. I just wanna see the rematch so there’s no more questions either way.

Good to know he’ll be around but I hope he doesn’t stay past his prime, this last fight with Okami he was taking hits that I don’t think he meant to take with his head bobbin moves. I don’t think Chael deserves a rematch just for the steroid use and the clear tapout, but I do think this fight should still happen so we can see the real Silva come to fight, because any of Silva’s real fans would see in that fight he wasn’t the same Anderson we know and love. I still think SIlva can beat Chael either by submission or TKO due to strikes.

He doesn’t have much top mw talent left. If and when he blast through them I predict he will move to lhw and forget the GSP fight, he’s going to move to the lw. Whether that’s through losing the title or defeating the talent left in the ww division.

185 is the weakest division in the UFC anyway, that’s why he’s champ. More proof is Rumble’s weak ass finally moving up to 185.
Like Soares said, Silva started his career fighting chumps, MADE his career fighting chumps, and wants to finish his career fighting chumps.
Rumble ain’t weak and I doubt Anderson is scared to fight Jones but he is wary of his wresting now that it is apparent that wrestling is Anderson’s Achilles heel. Anderson is a smart fighter with excellent accuracy and I doubt he will make the same mistakes he made against Chael or any other future ground game specialist. But really though I could care less if Anderson wins or loses but lets see him move to a different weight class. I wouldn’t mind seeing him in ww if he could make the cut.
