Alverez beats Aoki, Avenges loss | MMA NEWS

Eddie Alvarez finally avenged his 2008 loss to Shinya Aoki by finishing the bjj ace via 1st round TKO at Bellator 66.

After a short feeling out process and a failed attempt at getting Alvarez to the mat, Aoki lead with a reckless right elbow, leaving him exposed to a hard right hand landed by Alvarez. Aoki hit the mat, but with the guard ready, seemingly unharmed. Alvarez quickly shot into Aoki’s guard and finished him with a vicious flurry of hard ground and pound shots. Aoki’s corner threw in the towel, though the ref did not see it, stopping the fight shortly after regardless. This was the first fight for Eddie Alvarez after losing his Lightweight belt to Michael Chandler at Bellator 58.

Other results were

Andreas Spang def. Brian Rogers via 2nd rnd TKO
Maiquel Falco def Vyacheslav Vasilevsky via UD
Rick Hawn def. Lloyd Woodard via 2nd rnd TKO
Brent Weedman def. Thiago Michel Pereira Silva via SD

Eddie Alvarez smashed Aoki last night! Aoki’s team had to throw in the towel but didnt matter cause ref didnt see it and Eddie just throwing down punches! Glad to see he avenged his loss and looked better than ever! Interesting he left Philly to go train with the Blackzillians! Starting to like that team more and more!

i dont even know how to watch belator….very bad advertising

  3. Dinglenuts Magee says:

Can we stop with the AOKI is the greatest LW ever bullshit now.

there’s at least half a dozen UFC LWs that would do that to AOKI and there have been for years. Throw him in a cage with top fighters and no fancy pants and he will get his ass kicked by real fighters.

Don’t fall for JMMA records, they mean NOTHING.

aoki sucks bc his standup is horrible and his chin sucks but his ground game is so good he still does good in mma like that elbow for ex it was horrible I think aoki could have won if he pulled guard or took him down but since he didn’t do that he was stuck completely vulnerable

  6. T.Daddy says:

Both of these guys wud get smashed in the ufc….

  7. A.James says:

Why even pay attention to these guys? Alvarez isn’t leaving Bellator to fight the best and he’s already lost his belt. What’s he doing?
