UFC officials announced on Wednesday that promotional newcomer Aljamain Sterling will replace the recently injured Bryan Caraway to face Lucas Martins at UFC 170 in February.
It was announced only yesterday that Caraway had been injured and forced out of the February 22 card.
Sterling (8-0) steps into this bout with a perfect record, with five of his eight wins coming by way of TKO or submission. The Serra-Longo fighter is riding an impressive three-fight streak of winning via rear naked choke.
Caraway’s original opponent, Lucas Martins (14-1), is coming off two impressive finishes over Jeremy Larsen and Ramiro Hernandez. Only one of Martins’ 14 wins have come via decision, as the Brazilian fighter looks to push the action with nine T/KO victories to his name.
Martins and Sterling are set to fight on the preliminary card of UFC 170, which headlines with a women’s bantamweight championship fight between Ronda Rousey and Sara McMann, and the light heavyweight debut of former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier against former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans.
