Alistair Overeem to Face Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC 156
According to a report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem will face Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC 156 on Super Bowl Weekend February 2nd in Las Vegas.
Overeem is currently serving a suspension and this fight is pending until he applies for and receives his license from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. He is eligible to apply on December 27 and is by no means guaranteed to be approved. Overeem was scheduled to face UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146 this past May, but in a pre-fight drug test he had elevated levels of testosterone.
Overeem has fought once under the UFC banner and that came against former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 140 last December. Overeem scored a first round TKO and earned the right to face Dos Santos for the heavyweight title.
Silva’s debut in the UFC was an auspicious one as the Brazilian faced former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 146 and was defeated by first round TKO. Velasquez didn’t waste any time in taking Silva down and busted him open leaving pools of blood all over the Octagon canvas.
The former EliteXC champion redeemed himself last month with a first round TKO victory over the previously undefeated Travis Browne. The win ended a two-fight losing streak and if he should defeat Overeem, Silva will become an instant contender in the heavyweight division.
UFC 156 will be headlined by a bout for the featherweight championship as current champion Jose Aldo will face former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Other rumored bouts include two light heavyweight showdowns. Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida will meet in what could be a fight to determine a number one contender in the division and former champion Rashad Evans will square off against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

haha wow, RIP bigfoot.
Carwin out so no fight with Nelsen. Hopefully they will put Bigfoot in with Nelsen in TUF main event.
Carwin decided he couldn’t fight because he was worried he couldn’t get JUICED back up in time.
Wow UFC156 fightcard is looking good! I hope there won’t be any injuries.
And yeah Overeem will have an easy payday. Bigfoot is no match for him.
I agree easy fight for Overeem but a good chance to get a KO and a warm up before a shot at Cain or JDS. Bigfoot is just too damn slow
Heres comes the knockout of the nite for Reem…Where Struve?
Bigfoot is a fluke, just a humongous guy with perseverance… and as browne said it (not that I’m a browne fan or smth), he can beat bigfoot 10 of 10 in a rematch…
Reem is gonna destroy poor bigfoot! Besides his last fight he’s had a couple of rough outings with cain and DC.. Reem by 1st round UBERKNEE
Man that is a stacked card, gonna be awesome. Both of these dudes are behemoths but Bigfoot has no chance. Overeem is just too good of a striker and even Browne would have KOd Bigfoot if it want for his knee
“BIGFACE” is fukt.
Reem will walk through him easily.
haha, Bigface!
+1 kudo’s on bigface hahaha made me laugh
Sometimes I wonder if the matchmakers have issues with people and put them in a position to be hurt. I know anything can happen in MMA, but wow. I don’t see this going so well for Mr foot
LOL! ‘mr foot’
well said lol
Typical UFC tactic… make sure the Reem gets a win so he can fight Cain after he takes the belt from JDS.
I know you guys all know everything and stuff, but wasnt bigfoot supposed to have died in the Fedor fight???
Im just asking
Valid point. But I feel like the people who were saying that, and there were many, were banking on old fedor showing up. In which case a medic would have needed to be on standby. Mr Foot winning? Possible, not probable.
Big Face does lack speed, but his power is big. Reem has both speed and power. A good warm up before facing Cain or JDS
You mean big chin. I just call him “the chin.”
I would def put my money on the Reem, but maybe not such an easy fight as everyone is saying here. I think its cool Reem is fighting the guy he was supposed to face in the second round of the SF HW GP. Then he just has to take out Cormier and we can give him another championship title. + of course the Ufc HW championship once he beats JDS.
This will be an excellent punching bag for the REEM, we’ll get to see him practice all his kickboxing for a solid 1 round before Bigfoot drops dead. RIP.
I’m not a huge overeem fan but silva is gonna get smashed!
do they train together @ blackzillians or am i wrong ?
