Alistair Overeem: “JDS is afraid of me” | UFC News

UFC heavyweight and top contender, Alistair Overeem, recently told a Dutch website that he believes current UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos is afraid of him.

“JDS” has been quite vocal in his statements lately saying that the currently suspended Overeem does not deserve an immediate title shot upon his return.

However, it has been proposed that upon his return from suspension, Alistair will receive an immediate title shot against the winner of the heavyweight title fight rematch set for UFC 155 between Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez.

Here is what the “Reem” had to say say to Dutch web site Mixfight.nl:

Well Junior dos Santos says all kind of things that don’t really make sense. First he begged to Dana White he wanted to fight me, so as a fighter I accept such a challenge right away. Now he’s saying that I don’t deserve a title fight. He has to make up his mind as he’s changing his story all the time. The same stuff he was saying about me going to the school of Chael Sonnen. I never made the fight between us personal and I never bad mouthed him, the only thing I said was that I think he’s afraid of me which I think he still is haha. When I signed with the UFC I could of easily go for the title shot right away but I chose to fight Brock Lesnar so in no means I’m talking myself into a title shot. If the UFC wants me to fight for the title I’m available and if they decide to let me fight someone else first I’m also fine with that. I’m a fighter and I will get my chance sooner or later.

Junior Dos Santos focus is surely on his next opponent and former champion Cain Velasquez, whom he rematches December 29 at UFC 155 in Las Vegas, Nevada. If “JDS” is able to defeat Velasquez for a second time that night, it would be safe to assume that a match with the “Reem” would follow soon after.

    reem is a bum.

    • Thom says:

good one neckbeard. actually reem has a point here. don’t agree that JDS is scared but he’s right about the other stuff.

      • Alex says:

Overeem should be made to wait until they are sure all the Test (and whatever else) is out of his system. If you don’t have the genetics to fight on a level playing field then you shouldn’t be allowed to fight. Steroids are for the week and pathetic.

        • kees says:

Roids were never found during the random drugtest, when he was more muscled up then ever. Only a high amount of testesterone, wich doesn’t explain muscle mass.

  2. truemma says:

Overeem has to be the most overrated mma fighter. Hen needs to stay off the roids.

  3. GOLDENGLORY says:

OVEREEM would get dismantled very fast by cigano, he is an example of a pinyata in the sport of mma! He is worst than Fail sonnen……. Shut up reem u on to much roids big for nothing fag, i would say this to your ugly ass face too/ let you hit me & laugh at your unproffessionalness

  4. Mike b says:

HaHaHa!Ive posted my comment about this plenty of times before, reems been saying this.Look, reem has accomplished a lot in K-1 and mma and he’s a he’ll of a fighter. But I can’t wait till he fights JDS so JDS can knock his fu*king block off and shut him up already.JDS is gonna iceman him….

  5. Generation X says:

Anybody that thinks JDS would walk through Overeem is crazy. Once Overeem gets a hold of JDS it’s over.

JDS has to get by Cain first in which I think will be a different outcome this time.

Remember this is MMA not boxing the last I recall, and that’s the only thing that JDS has shown so far in his game.

    • Brett says:

Hes only shown boxing because nobody can get ahold of him and take him down. Pretty sure hes a black belt in BJJ, so Im sure he can handle himself on the ground as well. I dont think anybody is gonna just walk through Overeem, however, I do believe that JDS will beat him and possibly TKO him in the Championship Rds. First thing is first though and he does have to get past Cain again. Either way some great fights coming up in the HWT Division!

  6. Scotty says:

Overeem got Knocked out by chuck and shogun
Imagine how quick JDS would finish him

    • B-rad says:

Anderson Silva got submitted by Ryo Chonan, does that mean Ryo Chonan is the greatest fighter ever? Reem lost those fights early in his career in pride. But he was also the FIRST person to submit Vitor Belfort

      • Iceman says:

Cant argue with u that much,at least u got ur facts straight.I loved that silva vs chonan fight at pride shockwave, hell of a fight bro.But the reem was and is way bigger than vitor man.that was one of those pride freak show fights that was just so unfair. But hey the reem won it,no need to argue that,it happened in 2005…I think.Bottom line tho JDS will ko this guy let’s be honest here.

        • Not You says:

The Reem submitted Vitor in the pride light heavyweight tournament. He was still at 205. I don’t know how that is a freak show fight. He ha a similar build to Jones at the time. If that is a freak show fight, then by your standards every fight Jones is in is a freak show fight.

        • Not You says:

The Reem was KO’ed by Chuck and Shogun and Sergei. Chuck and Shogun were arguably the top 2 light heavyweights on Earth at the time. And Sergei is one of the heaviest hitters at heavyweight. No shame in those loses. He was TKO’ed by Shogun and had the towel thrown in against Nog, again, Nog was at the top of his game at the time. Since his lose to Sergei he hasn’t been KO’ed outside of a kickboxing match. And for those who are going to try and rag on his for that, three standing 8 counts = a KO win in K1. If you would just watch his second fight with Badr Hari, you would see that the Reem has great punch resistance at heavyweight. I’d like to see any MMA heavyweight take Hari’s shin to the jaw and remain standing and walk away.

  7. Since 2004 says:

Reem is an idiot. YES, Cigano wants to kick his ass and YES Cigano doesnt believe that he deserves the shot, one doesnt ex out the other. Either this guy knows how to stir the masses and is intentionally saying stupid shit to get the stupid people to clamor for him or he really is just stupid.

  8. learntoread says:

To say JDS is “afraid” of any fighter is just silly.

  9. thatguybreyzen says:

Overeem vs. Santos is going to be an exciting fight, both are well rounded ko artists which makes a brawl with a cherry on top ko! My favorite!

  10. Joe says:

You guys R getting way ahead of yourself talking about overeem vs JDS I just dnt think Cain is going to get knock out this time. He will take junior down to the ground this time and u saw what happen to Bigfoot silva he was destroyed and Bigfoot beat the shit out of fedor. So I got Cain winning his title back 90% on Cain

  11. GOLDENGLORY says:

Reem hits soft, the roids make him who he is= COMPLETE FAKE CARCAS…… CIGANO IS A TRUE MARTIAL ARTIST THAT IS GONNA MAKE REEM SUFFER! HE will wish he just took another bottle to the chick instead of getting hit by JDS……..

  12. The Hitman says:

JDS will destroy him with an injured knee too…..

  13. vikingmma says:

overeem has no miracles for that one….

  14. Tony Soprano says:

All of you idiots have probably never watched Overeem in K-1, let alone even know what K-1 is. Gosh!

    • Iceman says:

What does K-1 have to do this?MMA is a different sport.Another fag who thinks they know everything.JDS will ko the reem, nuff said.

      • B-rad says:

He meant people havent watched his K-1 fights and are dismissing his striking abilites. Im not sayin Reem is a better fighter than Jr. But i guarantee that Junior would have gotten owned by Badr Hari, Tyrone Spong, Remy Bonjaski

  15. vikingmma says:

k-1 is far from the ufc & mma…… your a true example of an IDIOT! Reem will get his ass kicked 10/10 times in that fight, ground & standing up!

    • MooreUSMC says:

K-1 is far from MMA as far as fighting goes sure. But you are a clown for thinking MMA has better strikers. That’s like thinking MMAfighters can out box boxers. Serious championship stupidity my friend they should give you a belt.

  16. 123 says:

junior dos santos vs allistair overeem would be insane, iv got a feeling cain velasquez will dominate at ufc 155 tho.

  17. Mma#1 says:

2 survive at these level u have 2 b a juice monkey. It’s fact. They just decide who gets called 4 it. The whole sport is tainted with peds….

  18. MooreUSMC says:

I hate to tell you guys this but Reem is the current K-1 heavyweight grand prix champ. No body beats reem standing anymore. JDS COULD do it but when you compare credentials, styles, and recent matches reem is a better striker hands down. Does that automatically translate to MMA? No but still reem is pretty sick on his feet.

  19. Xaninho says:

I know MMA is not K-1, but JDS’s strongest point is his stand-up. Being a K-1 GP champ Overeem has proven he can hang with, and even beat the best strikers from all around the world. So right now Overeem is JDS’s biggest threat out there.

  20. vikingmma says:

The Demolition man is a kickboxer & thats totaly different then a fist fight………. his all around game in a FIST FIGHT is tidious, his ground is weak as styrofoam! Dos santos would put him on his back easy like sunday morning! Dos santos puts every fighter on there back, made cain take a nap on his own shoulder + made mir into SMIR! point made amatuer!
