Alistair Overeem: ‘I dropped weight to improve cardio’

“I actually dropped some weight. I wanted improved cardio, so obviously you want to lose some weight. That actually goes automatic. A lot more cardio and you automatically lose a lot of weight. We just wanted [my cardio] to be better… Dealing with losses is never cool – it’s always hard. You should always reinvent yourself, but when you lose you just do it a little bit more. I did just that for this fight. The focus has been very well the last couple of months. Sparring partners are good, my coaches have performed excellent and I think I’m really peaking right now.”

In a recent interview with MMAJunkie, former Strikeforce champ, Alistair Overeem discussed the adjustments he’s made for his upcoming bout against Frank Mir.

Could slimming down be the key to Overeem’s UFC success?

    Well it’s about time Alistair focused on cardio. 3 rounds of a non-gassed Overeem is SCARY

      Its called getting knocked out. He was doing fine in his fights he lost even dominating his cardio wasn’t the issue it was lack of consciousness ffs its the heavyweight division where a simple slap could break your jaw

        So you really don’t see the connection between gassing out and because of that being more susceptible for KO’s? He got hit because he couldn’t keep his hands up and got KO’d because he couldn’t recover from a hard hit.

    It wasn’t cardio alone….it was low-T from being off the juice….He needs TRT since he now as pea nuts.

    This fight goes to the ground Mir is gonna grind and ground n pound…Overeem was viscious with kicks and his knees back in the day and its already been countered by Browne so I dont see a good outcome for him…Although i really hope for a KO by either.
