Ali Bagautinov set to face John Lineker at UFC 169 | UFC News
With Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson able to defend his belt yet again, the UFC’s flyweight division is in search for another contender to go after the title.
Next in line seems to be the victor of the upcoming flyweight bout at February’s UFC 169 between Ali Bagautinov (12-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and John Lineker (23-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC). The bout was made official last Wednesday on an episode of “UFC Tonight” that airs on FOX Sports 1.
Airing Super Bowl weekend on Pay-Per-View, UFC 169 has a pair of Championship bouts to headline the card. The long waited return of bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz as he is set to face off against the very dangerous interim champion Renan Barao to unify the belt. Also, featherweight champion Jose Aldo defends his title agains Rcardo Lamas. Preliminary fights are expected to air on FOX Sports 1.
UFC 168 is set to take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J on February 1.
On the run of a 10 fight win streak, two of which from his first two fights in the UFC. The Russian Bagautinov debuted in September with a stoppage of Marcos Vinicius in Brazil at UFC Fight Night 28. He then defeated Tim Elliott at UFC 167 via unanimous decision in Las Vegas. These two victories being Bagautinov’s first fights outside of his home country.
Lineker is on a win streak of his own winning four straight fights after losing his UFC debut fight against Louis Gaudinot via guillotine in May of 2012. Three of his last four victories coming by way of TKO against Jose Maria and Phil Harris. The only real issue with the 23-year-old is that he has been having problems meeting his 125 pound weight limit. He has missed weight in three out of his four UFC bouts.
LIneker is ranked No. 6 on BJPenn.com’s rankings, and although Bagautinov is not yet ranked he is coming to prove that the dangerous Russian is more than up to the task.
