Alexis Davis and Sara McMann officially join the UFC’s Female Roster | UFC NEWS

It seems UFC President Dana White is serious about giving the women fighters a chance. It was announced today that two more females will join the UFC’s Bantamweight division: Alexis Davis and Sara McMann.  This brings the total number of female fighters in the division to six.

The signing of Sara McMann should be of no surprise to anyone that follows women’s MMA. She is the first American female to win a silver medal in the sport of wrestling at the Olympic Games. She won the medal in the Women’s Freestyle 138.75 lb. weight class at the 2004 Olympics. Ranked by numerous outlets as one of the top ten female mixed martial artists in the world, McMann brings her perfect 6-0 record into the UFC after having fought under the ProElite and Invicta FC organizations.

McMann was set to make her Strikeforce debut at the Cormier vs. Mir event against Liz Carmouche, but the cancellation of the event caused that to be delayed. The eventual shut down of Strikeforce led to her signing with the UFC. Her last fight was against Shayna Baszler in July at Invicta FC 2, winning the match by decision.

Alexis Davis brings her 13-5 record over from Invicta FC as well. She is a healthy addition to the Bantamweight division considering she is ranked by most outlets in the top five female fighters in the world. Davis holds a black belt in both Japanese and Brazilian jujitsu. A veteran of both Invicta FC and Strikeforce Davis fought most recently at Invicta FC 4 against Shanya Baszler. She won that fight by rear naked choke submission in the 3rd round giving her a two fight win streak.

It is a strong possibility that they will make their debut in the UFC against one another. The signing of these women is a good indicator that the UFC is all in on making the women’s Bantamweight division work and successful.
