Alexander Gustafsson says he will be more than ready for Jones after he defeats Shogun | UFC NEWS

By Evan Stoumbelis

UFC light heavyweight fighter Alexander Gustafsson says that he will be more than ready to fight for the title after he defeats Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua December 8th at UFC on Fox 5 in Seattle.

“I want to fight the champion. That’s my main goal: to bring the belt back to Sweden. That’s what I want to do, but I never look past any opponent. When I beat ‘Shogun,’ I will be more than prepared to fight for a title. That’s what I want to do.”

Gustafsson is on a 5-fight win streak, his most recent win was in April when he defeated Thiago Silva via unanimous decision in his home country of Sweden.

“Like everyone always says. I’m trying to take it one fight at a time. I’m trying to be focused on ‘Shogun’ right now. Everything has gone well. I’m happy. There was a lot of pressure, fighting on my home ground, but it was a good experience.”

Whoa whoa whoa big fella! Shoguns gonna be tough sledding if you get by him then maybe you’ll feel more confident about Bones. The LHW div is to shallow for Jones I’m looking forward to him competing at HW, then everyone at LHW will feel relevant again.

  2. GRT 3000 says:

I like this guy but he won’t get passed Shogun.

  3. Shadleigh says:

Gustaffson stands a GREAT chance to beat Shogun!!!

  4. Clay says:

A Gus is gonna get dominated. I doubt he get past shogun either lol.. OVERRATED

  5. Xaninho says:

I think he’s pretty good, but he’s not ready for guys like Shogun. I really don’t understand where the whole Gustafsson hype comes from.

  6. Confucius says:

You guys will be eating your own words. Shoguns cardio is for shit and gustaf will take it to him. I want to see jones fight somebody else up and coming, not another legend past their prime. Why do people say they dont get the hype? Do you not follow these guys careers? Hes finished every single one of his UFC fights except for Thiago which he clearly dominated him for 5 rounds. thiago is not an easy opponent, only having really decisively lost by machida. Gustaf will take shogun but i doubt they will give him a shot anytime soon. Jones will prob move to HW before that ever happens

    • Xaninho says:

I don’t get the hype because he had two notable opponents, Phil Davis and Thiago Silva. He got choked out by Davis and Thiago Silva just came back after a long lay-off and he still took him to a decision. The rest of his wins aren’t that impressive.

Like I said, I think he’s pretty good but not ready for the real guys yet.

Yeah I mean Shogun is capable of having a bad fight and also probably a bit past his prime, but I just don’t see Gusto beating him. I think it’ll be TKO round number 2 for Shogun.

  8. Jujitsu Player says:

Gus is far from overrated, he’s one of the best contenders at LHW. He’s looked very impressive and gradually fought higher caliber fighters. Shogun is a test for him but one I think he’ll come through. Shogun is not the same fighter he was, evidenced by him pussy!ng out of a fight with Glover….

  9. david says:

hey this guy is great and shogun is a good target, but remember, never ever under any circumstance count shogun out. He got picked apart by vera till he knocked him out, the hendo fight. Dudes tough and hard to finish, always has knockout power in his hands, even when hes rocked

  10. Kjtrlt says:

I don’t see Gus taking Shogun. Will be a good fight, but that’s a big jump up in talent. He has to step up sometiime though.

  11. Sasquatch says:

    A. Gus will dismantle Shogun… watch and learn boys.
