Alexander Gustafsson Out Until October With Broken Hand | UFC News

When Thiago Silva pulled out of the UFC 149 bout with Shogun there was a number of names thrown around one was Alexander Gustafsson, however there is a very good reason why the Swedish star is not taking the bout.
Here is the story according to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua’s official Facebook page.
The name Rashad Evans has been talked about but he is injured. Same goes for Minotouro. Gustafsson was another option but it seems like he has a broken hand and will only be back in October. For us the only options left at the time are Phil Davis, who is fighting Wagner Caldeirão in August, and Ryan Bader, who is fighting Lyoto in the same event. But I still believe these fights can be rearranged. UFC 149 is pay-per-view and the one on Aug. 4th is open TV in the US.
The Dana White likes the idea of keeping a Brazilian vs. Brazilian fight and would like to see Shogun face Glover Teixeira however it seems like Rua’s camp want no part of Teixeira.

The MMA gods must be pissed or something…. Injury month
Shogun is ducking Teixeira.
Yeah because Teixeira has beaten such quality opponents that Shogun has no idea how to handle him.
meh, what quality opponents? I’m not saying that Glover isn’t the real deal, but he hasn’t faced anyone even close to Shogun’s caliber or his caliber of opponents. Shogun would wreck him.
I’ve only seen one fight of Glover’s when he mauled Kingsbury, but Shogun should take that fight. That’s really all that’s left for him. I don’t know why they’re avoiding him. It’s clear he’s ducking him.
No Gustafsson is not injured. Even the UFC says he’s not… Shogun got some bad info
GUSTAFSON IS OVERRATED. And who cares if he’s ducking fights. At this rate of injuries they might as well let him pick his own opponent. It’s not like he’s going to get to train for anybody
