After First Win in Over Three Years, Thiago Silva Tests Positive for Marijuana Metabolites- Suspended for Six Months
UFC officials announced that light heavyweight slugger Thiago Silva has tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his submission of the night victory over previously unbeaten Stanislav Nedkov on the UFC on Fuel TV 6 card that took place in China on November 10.
The win had been Silva’s first since he defeated Keith Jardine by first round knockout at UFC 102 way back in August of 2009. Silva had beaten Brandon Vera via unanimous decision at UFC 125 in January of 2011, but his post-fight drug test drew red flags and was found not to be consistent with human urine. Silva admitted to taking a banned substance, the fight was changed to a no contest and he was suspended for a year.
The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt made his return in April of this year and took on Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of the UFC’s first trip to Sweden. Silva lost the bout by unanimous decision and was then booked to face former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 149. Unfortunately Silva suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw from the bout.
With no athletic commission to oversee the drug screenings the UFC was in charge of administering the post fight drug tests after the card in China. Silva has admitted to using the banned substance and has been suspended for six months, but he was not issued any fine. The win however has been stricken from his record and changed to a no contest. The UFC has also ordered Silva to enter a drug rehab program and pass a drug test before being cleared to fight again.

Oh man…really?
Wow. I thot I was going to read ” steroids” but since its marijuana…. WHO GIVES A ****.
Only poeple on this planet that even give a rats a’ss abot POT are Nick Diaz haters and Keith “CORRUPT” Kizer. I haven’t smoked pot since 1980 but i couldn’t careless about who does and it certanly doesn’t help a pro MMA fighter at all in cage. It blows my mind that these same athletic commissions that have made POT illegal chose tom LEGALIZE STEROIDS. Ask any doctor, any pharmacisct anyone with half a brain and is able to GOOGLE testosterone KNOWS SYNTHETIC TESTOSTERONE SI ONE OF THE STRONGEST MOST EFFECTIVE STEROID IN WORLD FOR GAINING MASSIVE STRENGTH, POWER, STAMINA, and making a fighter be able to train 10 times harder and recover 10 times faster as well as it helps fighters be able to sustain much more punishment. How they can issue same penalties and steal 100k of Nick Diaz’s fight earnings to me is outright criminal. I ask you all does it matter when a fighter lists a banned medication on their pre-fight questionair where the prescrition was written as long as the fighter has a legal RX from a dcotor? NO it doesn’t. But it matters if ist POT and its not even a steroid. They need to ban TRT and test all fighters for synthetic testosterone (which they don’t currently) any fighter can use as much synthetic testosetrone as tehy please year round without a TUE/TRT exemption as longa s they taper down under the insanly high 750ng levels that are allowed. So basically its easier not to have a TRT cheater card and that is eactly why Nate “THE CHEAT” Marquardt suddely decided he no longer needed it. What amiracle a known lifetime steroid abuser who cried to world how he had LOW T suddenly is CURED. ask any doctor no high level athlete who ahs used massive amounts of steroids and then was on TRT shooting up 1600 mg od testosterone amonth fro a YEAR doesn’t just STOP and say all i nned to do was change up my training a bit and now i’m fine. If anyone of you believe taht for one second I have a bridge I want to sell you. Nate “THE CHEAT” is doing the eact same thing he has always done except him and his coachs and manager the “CROOKED” Lex Mcmahan are making sure they ar eetsting the hell out of him the last 10 weeks before he fights. Now nate Cheat has gotten the athletic commissions and the UFC and fans off his back by LYINGa and saying he no longer needs the JUICE but is able to show up in best shape of his life is a complete JOKE. all the athletic commisions would have to do is test him for synthetic testosterone which should not be abig deal since he was on TRTa nd now says he’s off. well see if he’s really off. 100% he’s cheating. yeah right POT is cheating but TRT is not
you should smoke weed and shut up
Is that the “REAL” Xaninho??? or that idiot Blah blah blah that signs in under your name?
How you doing buddy? I just wanted to let you know we all know when that IDIOT bla bla is using your name. he does it to me to and alot of otehrs to. What i would give to get my hands on that piece of shit. That punk is the biggets waste of oxygen on here
Yeah it’s the real me. I’m doing fine.
The douchebag who used my name is banned lol. the moderators want to keep things civil around here so when some bullshit is posted under my name from a different ip than mine then that ip gets banned right away.
Man the x factor was deadly last night
so trt is just another type of physical therapy that doesnt effect the outcome of a fighter and weed makes you a better fighter, glad they straitened that out for me.
What’s up with all these fighters smokin weed!?… you’d think it would subdue them to a certain degree. Can’t see how it works as a PED seeing how the burners I know are only a threat to the contents of their fridge.
It’s about a f***** fighter being mature enough to follow the rules set before him by his “employer.” I’m a huge Thiago Silva fan, but his second suspension for illegal substance shows that he continues to be a jackass about abiding by the rules.
+1
i love weed
You have got to be kidding me they are suspending guys over a natural plant.. a herbal medicine. A plant that is slowly becoming legal once again…
and already legal for medical use in 18 states..
Yet they allow TRT and PEDs.. There is something wrong with this picture…
OH and ROFL on the ordered drug rehab.. You cannot become physically addicted to marijuana.. Mentally oh yes.. hell you can become mentally addicted to soda ffs,,
Gaaah
Unfortunately personal opinions on weed do not matter. It’s against the law and the UFC and the prohibited for fighters use. There is mandated testing and it is punishable. The fighters all agree to it when contracted. They are supposed to be mature enough and professional enough to follow the rules. That’s how it goes.
Really???? Are you that stupid?
You know there’s a solution to this problem: don’t do weed when you’re training for a fight. If you can’t stop for 6 months ir whatever it is, and you know your livelihood depends on it you’ve got an addiction.
He sorta deserves it. It’s like smocking weed while interviewing for jobs when you know you’re going to be tested.
this guy’s career is down the toilet…
