A ‘Very Confident’ Jon Jones Talks Potential Fights With Velasquez And Weidman

“Yeah for sure [I’d like to fight Cain Velasquez], but right now I’m preparing to go into probably the toughest schedule I’ve had. Any of the next three guys, they’re monsters. That’s what I’m preparing for is getting through Glover, Gus again — and a I know a lot people wouldn’t agree that I got through him the first time — and DC. So that’s my schedule for now.”

“Dude, I think it would be phenomenal (to fight Weidman), I think it would be awesome. You know I’ve got no reason to make comments about Weidman. Everything you say up here it gets brought back to the fighters, so I don’t want to offend him. I think he’s a great guy. But I’m very confident. I’m a very confident young man, and I’ll just leave it at that.”

During yesterday’s UFC Fan Q&A, the light-heavyweight champion, Jon Jones discussed possible match ups with his neighboring champions.

Think Jones can take out Weidman or Velasquez or both?

Weidman can make 205 and Jones can make heavyweight.

But ultimately like GSP vs. Silva it’ll be talked about forever and Dana won’t let it happen.

  2. Andy Bourdeau says:

Weidman he’d destroy no problem..Velasquez he’d beat as well. I read everyones post saying Cain would dominate and hes too big and strong but Jones would take the time to bulk up like an intelligent fighter. He’d dominate Cain because he has the genes to be Alistair overeem 10.0..that’s how good I think this dude is..he has a lions heart unlike the reem and dominant in every martial art…he’d be heavyweight champ until he decided to retire and I truly believe that.

  3. Zack says:

Jds took down cain and he isnt a wrestler. That logic of gus takin him down is dumb just saying. jones fought plenty wrestlers and neutralized or out wrestled them.

    • T.Daddy says:

when did jds take cain down??? I don’t recall that at all and if he did im pretty sure cain was back up very quickly… cain might be able to beat bones without takin him down… if they fought cain would be able to take the fight anywhere… he would rag doll bones… and you wanna talk about logic… its pretty good logic if you ask me because NOBODY ever took bones down until he fought Gus… and he didn’t just take him down he out wrestled the wrestler…

lol, whether Jones would win or not, how do you question a man’s chin who has never lost. Jones has been in the ring with power hitters before, including Rampage Jackson and drug, I mean Testoterone induced Vitor Belfort.
He broke a toe, had his arm dislocated and still keeps going. Like Cain, he has no quit in him whatsoever. He beats people at their own game and who needs a knock out punch with a submission game like his?
BTW, you can’t judge Jones based on his recent performance with Gustaffson. If anything, Gustaffson has been underrated in my book and for a very long time. Hats off to both of those guys.

  5. Rowan Christie says:

everyone knows weidman won that first fight, which is why jones doesn’t want to fight him again, or he would be..theres no one out there weidman cannot take right now.
