Silva vs. Sonnen II Moved to UFC 148 in Las Vegas

By Jason Kindschy:

The UFC has officially announced that the rematch for the UFC middleweight title will not take place in Rio at UFC 147; instead the bout has been moved to UFC 148 in Las Vegas.

In recent days there has been a lot of discussion around the venue for highly anticipated rematch between Anderson Silva (31-4) and Chael Sonnen (27-11-1). The event was initially scheduled to take place in Brazil, but with recent news of the United Nations +20 Summit taking place the same weekend, the UFC was rumored to be moving the event elsewhere.

UFC 148 is scheduled to take place on July 7th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The original main event for this card was a grudge match between current “Ultimate Fighter Live” coaches Dominick Cruz (19-1) and Urijah Faber (26-5), for the UFC bantamweight title. This fight will now be replaced with Silva and Sonnen as the main event, and the fight between Cruz and Faber will be demoted to co-main event.

The UFC had originally announced that UFC 147 would take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the Joao Havelange Stadium. The stadium is the future home of the 2016 Olympic games, and UFC President Dana White had anticipated a crowd of 80,000 plus. Then in recent weeks, concerns grew over the U.N. meeting scheduled for June 20-22 in Rio, and the lack of hotel accommodations for the fans.

UFC officials are also set to announce what this means for the co-main event slated to take place on the same night, a showdown between current TUF Brazil coaches, Wanderlei Silva (34-11-1) and Vitor Belfort (21-9).

This news is very unfortunate for the Brazilian fans, who wanted to see the UFC champ Anderson Silva gain revenge for his entire country against Chael Sonnen, who has been very vocal with his dislike for Brazil and Brazilian fans. On the other hand, this is a dodged bullet for top contender Chael Sonnen, whose safety was a serious concern if the event was to take place in Brazil.

Chael avoided the angry mob waiting for him in Brazil on fight day… Lucky bastard

  2. Eric El Bestia says:

  4. jonsui123@yahoo.com says:

fuk i wanted sonnen to get murdered really in brazil////,,and i wanted anderson to go out with his home country for his last fight,….this is more obvious then the bj retirement

  5. Xaninho says:

DW knew this would happen, they were never seriously going to do this in Brazil. They want 10.000 moronic rednecks chanting USA for their roidhero Eunuch-ael Sonnen.

That nutless roider gets all the advantages again. Is the NSAC going to do random testing on the eunuch?

  6. Mach00man says:

ok so what about the rest of the fights at 147??

  7. cheap says:

“The stadium is the future home of the 2012 Olympic games” -> should say 2016.

  8. GET RID OF TRT says:

    Sucks for me

    Sucks for Brazil

    Sucks for the sport

  9. Ste says:

What a load of balls, so all the Brazil fans would have been looking forward to seeing the Champ fight in his home country then they go and move the fight to the USA….

I wanted to see Sonnen get the booing he deserves lol… He was probably sucking dick to get them to move the fight to avoid this…

Yea I say surprise random test before the fight and see what levels he is at…

Either way, Sonnen is a wrestler so this just means another 5 rounds of him getting gay on the ground with Silva or untill Silva submits him again…..

  10. Michael says:

How long until Silva pulls out with an injury?

  11. gio says:

Ok so when sit somebodies guard for five rojnds n get elbowed n then get submitted in thr 5th round hiw can u say ur the best.. u lost

    • lol says:

At least we got to see “the greatest fighter EVAR OMG FTW ANDERSON SILVA!!!” get his ass stomped on for 5 rounds… Tha’ts worth even more than the belt in my opinion and Chael is considered a champ in my book for giving me the pleasure of watching that vain POS get put in his place. Which was on his back getting punched and elbowed in the body/face. hahaha.

      • dam says:

Haha, he barely could handle bisbings garbage ass. Be real

        • lol says:

What are you talking about? We are talking about Sonnen v Silva #1, you know, the first fight where Sonnen put the smack down on Silva for 5 rounds… What does Bisbing have to do with this??

So this is me being real –> “Read sh** before you go typing nonsense you f’ing mongoloid”

        • lol says:

oh yeah, here is some more of me being real -> “get Silvas’ nurts out yo mouth.”

  12. Jose hill says:

Good Shit kid your the man

  13. Brend0magic says:

KNEW this shit was gonna happen as soon as they announced the UN conference or w/e

  14. Clay says:

Silva will win, the dudes too good

  15. F*** Brazillian fans says:

I say GREAT. Brazilian fans are already the worst. The boo the s*** out of anyone who is just not Brazilian (Especially fighters from the US). I know having pride in your country, but at least we cheer for ANYONE, no matter what country they are from. There are even wayyyy more Silva fans than there are for Chael in the US. Also, with what Chael has said about that country and the grudge between the two almost makes it dangerous for anyone who is not from Brazil to try and attend the fight. If by a miracle Chael wins, then there would be a f’ing riot and god knows what would happen to any non Brazilian, and I am not saying all Brazilians are bad, but it only takes one idiot who is SUPER dedicated to the sport to hurt someone bc their guy lost. Which would describe A LOT of Brazilian Silva fans. Hate me if you want, but its the truth. The Brazillian fans HATE American fighters, and we love any fighter whos good. So which country is really the biased one??

    • Also says:

With the way all of these people on this forum are in love with Silva so much, maybe we should have the fight in the UK. I have never seen a Country other than the US that BOO’s their OWN fighters more than their own countrymen. So sad. I know Chael comes off as a douche, but it gives much needed REAL hype and trash talk compared to the buddy buddy fake lame promoting that is going on in the UFC right now. This is a REAL GRUDGE MATCH, not that Rashad / Jones over-promoted over-hyped crap.

    • Excellent Post Above says:

If Chael did smash Anderson in Brazil, anyone white may be in danger because Brazilians may confuse any white person for Chael..

It is ridiculous how unfair it is for any non-Brazilian fighter when the UFC is there. But it’s the UFC’s fault because they make the cards “Brazil vs the world” when they were there the last two times with a Brazilian in every fight. Japan was pretty close to the same thing. I know the UFC wants to bring in the live audience and increase the interest of card for the country they’re in. But the Brazil cards are always stacked with Brazilians.

  16. drew says:

tahts why chael looked pretty full at the press conference when i saw that pic was like omg chaels just going in the for the payday but i gues he knew the whole time it owuld of been moved back…honestly iwas trying to see how rowdy brazil was going to be …i really felt like that whole stadium would of rushed the octagon if he won or lost

  17. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Good for Cruz and Faber moved to Co-main. I don’t think I would hassle myself to watch them in the main. I liked watching them fight last year but they aren’t as exciting as Vitor vs Wandy or Silva vs Sonnen. These are true main events. Last week although we got a lot of finishes, the card was kind of weak at 145. Even the main couldn’t live up to the hype and you know they made a killing at the bank riding solely on Jon Jones coattails.

Nevada eh? Sonnen better prepare for the random drug test if he’s still abusing.

    • agreed says:

Cruz is one of my fav. fighters just because of his unique style and insane movement + boxing skills. But he just has problems finishing fights. This is an INSANE card now and in Vegas??? Hell yeah… Haven’t seen a card this good in a min. TWO REAL GRUDGE MATCHES… not that fake hype sh**.

  18. jorge says:

    Sonnen is an idiot
he is a clown, should live in the circus ..

  19. KIDD433 says:

American fans do the same shit.the chant of USA!even to cheer a boring ass fighter against a a good disciplined foreign fighter.i for 1 am an american, but what gets my cheer is a hungry aggressive fighter that brings the fight every time.1 that goes for the kill.and doesnt put on boring ass fights.wheather its a american fighter or not.thats what i cheer for.SORRY CHAEL

  20. Hmm says:

Well with that fight going to vegas its going to make my trip to the expo 10x better now need to whore myself out for ticket money

  21. Felix says:

Fuck this rematch. Sonnen couldn’t beat Silva on performance-enhancing substances; he’s gonna get raped in there without ‘em. I hope Chael literally dies in the octogon.

  22. por que os lutadores no brazil como nos outros eua
