Overeem Officially Withdraws From UFC 146 & Postpones NSAC Hearing | UFC NEWS

Authentic Sports Management today issued the following statement on behalf of UFC heavyweight athlete Alistair Overeem:
“To my friends and fans,
I am deeply saddened to announce that on Friday, April 20, I respectfully withdrew from the May 26 event so that I can request a continuance until my situation with the Nevada State Athletic Commission is resolved.
I cannot express how sorry I am to the Commission, Junior Dos Santos, the fans, the owners and employees of the UFC, my friends and family and anyone else who this has affected.
I absolutely do not believe in, nor do I use performance-enhancing drugs. I am a clean fighter and I will do whatever it takes to prove this to everyone.
Prior to the UFC 146 press conference in March, I aggravated an old rib injury on my left side. My doctor prescribed, and I accepted, an anti-inflammatory medication that was mixed with testosterone. I was completely unaware that testosterone was one of the ingredients in the medication. Although I was unaware, I do realize it is my job to know what I am putting into my body.
I respect the Nevada Commissioners and Executive Director Keith Kizer and what they are doing to keep
the sport of mixed martial arts regulated and safe for athletes. I look forward to working with them in the days and weeks ahead.
Friends and fans, I ask for your patience as I work through this matter. Please support me. I promise to return to the Octagon soon.”

Make sense?? serious?? always when someone test positive, is the same bla bla bla. my doctor bla bla bla
**** YOU, grow up and said YES i take it, i went to be the biggest and strongest guy in octagon, This doctor talk is a ***** talk.
It’s a viable reason, no more lame than anyone else that has been suspended by the commission, only to return sooner than expected. ie. Sonnen. Now I’m not saying he’s telling the truth, that is the job of the Nevada Athletic Commission. But let’s just put this into perspective, people are getting detained and interrogated by TSA, just because they found some sort of foreign substance during a swab test. Does it make them a terrorist? Turns out, 99.9% of them that have been detained aren’t. Just the bad luck of spilling or rubbing something on them that contains trace amounts of substances that is one of many things that can create explosives. Your everyday cleaning supply has those same traces. So if you spill, or get back spray from any cleaner with ammonia, and you go through the airport, there’s a very good chance your going to be detained and questioned.

+3
Really? This is the best excuse he could come up with?
better one than trt
My thoughts exactly, the whole situation is ridiculous.
so long chump i mean cheat. see you in a year. gives you time for your nuts to grow back.
Testosterone is different than anabolic steroids.. just an fyi..
.
testosterone is both an anabolic and androgenic steroid, just an FYI your a stupud mother****er. get your facts right before you post stupid shit
No it isn’t. You should educate yourself on the differences between steroids and hormones before you run around slinging the S-Bomb at people.
yes but the article is talking about his testosterone use, your just plain stupid if your going to argue the fact that alistair has used steroids if you think otherwise you need a reality check.the fact that your saying testosterone is not a steroid is stupid. yes it is a hormone theres not an argument there . All anabolic and androgenic are based around testosterone, alistair wasnt injecting estrogen was he , you fag
Of course I am not going to say I think he didn’t ever use some sort of enhancements in his career. I am saying test is not a steroid it is a hormone. It is a performance enhancer no doubt. then again so is water. You just seem like an angry dude who likes to call people you’ve never met names on the internet in place of having a logical argument. Or maybe I am just a stupid **** fag who doesn’t know any better…
People are a little misinformed about the relationship between Testosterone and Steroids. Testosterone is a naturally occurring hormone. Steroids are chemicals that create synthetic testosterone.
Some steroids are legal (like Cortisone) and others are illegal (anabolic steroids). So just because he had elevated testosterone, does not mean he was using banned substances.
LMAO!!! STOP LYING!!!!
Really? You didn’t know your doctor was giving you steroids? You should be suing the doctor so it looks legit.
Lol I’ve broken ribs during fighting, never been given that combo before. I wonder how he will fight once he’s clean.
Get Ready For A 240 Pound Clean Reem… Next Year
Shit up already and be a man Ovaree… Shit.
I hope the UFC can drop this guy. What a retaliatory suck. Playing games with the UFC. Dana is not going to like that. He will never get a chance at the UFC title again IMO.
At the end of the day no one really knows the full story other than the man himself….
Let him prove himself innocent or be found guilty by the powers that be.
I think do think once its all said and done (ban or not) i think the reem will get a title shot after one or two fights. It may sound mad, but think about it Dana and co are letting Chael Sonnen, have a title fight after proving himself once he came back from his ban. T. Sliva just fought after handing in a fake piss test.
Oh and I’ve got JDS to beat Mir via K.O or TKO. was i the only one that saw Mir, get rocked bad by Nogueira in the stand up? JDS hits a hell of a lot hard than Nogueira and is twice as accurate with a great take down defence. I just don’t see Mir winning.
Oh dear sorry for the bad gramma people. I’m writing this while on a packed train.
We will see if he ever gets offered a title shot. I mean, will the guy ever test clean now that he is subject to random testing? He is going to have to pass in lesser fights before they can even think about a title shot offer. The UFC can’t have cancellations and reputation killing stuff like that happen again.
And yet Sonnen pretends to be a eunuch, had higher testosterone levels than Overeem had, on fightday!..And still he’s getting his rematch.
And DW isn’t going to cut him. He already said he’d continue working with Overeem. His statement was:” If I can deal with ****in Tito, I can deal with Alistair”
Exactly. If Sonnen is allowed to stay on board, Overeem will for sure.
I still think the things Sonnen says are ridiculous anyway considering that he is a steroid user, he didn’t beat SIlva even with the roids, and plenty of the stunts he pulls are terrible for the sport.
At least Overeem gets the job done and didn’t have a money laundering issue.
If this was true, his doctors would know that he can’t use testosterone. These guys are fine tuned atheltes dont think for 1 second they dont know whats going in thier bodies.
enough about this juiced up bum can we talk about fighters that will be fighting instead of this lame
I know he is most likely lying. I don’t care and would still like to see him fight. I think people should put this in perspective and realize Reem isn’t doing anything that a lot of other fighters don’t also do. He just got caught is all.
I’m trying not to be so cynical but it’s tough. I don’t want to believe that the majority of fighters are on PEDS. Until they are busted like Chael, Barnett, Overeem… I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. But, I’ll be skeptical of those that look like Marvel superheroes.
I actually think this excuse is the best one I’ve heard for this situation. It’s better than the usual blaming of HRT or TRT.
I know what you mean. There is a part of me that still wants to believe. I just think that this is just a symptom of professional athletes in general. Look at pro cycling for example, those dudes have mostly unimpressive physiques and are as doped up as anyone. Drugs or not though, Overeem and Barnnett are two of the best in the world and people who try to throw out their achievements because they were popped aren’t being realistic. PEDs on their own are worthless. How many times have there been obvious juicers who got owned by non juicers. When it comes down to it the most important thing is being a good fighter. There aren’t a lot of those in the HW Div. so I don’t think people should be so quick to shit on these guys. It seems like the people who are going the hardest on Alistair for his test results are the same people who claimed he didn’t stand a chance, then they change their tone when the results came out and say it isn’t fair. IMO there is no such thing as a fair fight. I am just getting sick of all these silly ****ers online who act like are some type of authority on fighting and strategy.
Well I think for most people its a respect issue. Most people praise those who take the tough road or way of achieving things. Steroids seem like a short cut especially if the other fighter is gaining strength and endurance by traditional means, eating right and putting in the time most importantly. Steroids won’t give you good technique or skill but you could still hurt someone badly with poor technique. Idk if Alistair is clean or not but he has good Technique. If he abusing and has good technique then that makes him more dangerous than any clean opponent he faces. That’s just my perspective but idk much about steroids beyond anabolic, catabolic and that steroids are synthetic. TRT is natural.
Exactly why I want to see him fight. Reem is a legitimate wrecking machine. You are correct about technique v strength though. That is why I think Alistair and Barnett should be fighting in the UFC because their technique is second to none for their weight. JDS is also very high level, but you need more people than him to make a division. I also believe that drugs or no drugs Alistair is one of the legit hardest working guys out there. The main reason I think the main reason he got so good is because he improved his technique so greatly from the Pride FC days and also stopped fighting at a dehydrated weight.
This would all be solved by the UFC putting more money into testing. Do they need to? No. Would it be a damn good idea and make the fans happy? Yeah. Do they have the money? Hell yeah.
I wonder how expensive would it be to hire a private company to do the testing? I mean they have fighters all over the world it’s not as simple as some people think. I bet Bellator is more lax than the UFC when it comes to drug testing.
