Dana White tells Jim Rome: “I know (Overeem) lied to me!” | UFC NEWS

By Chase Raymond:

Yesterday (April 25th, 2012) the very busy Dana White went on the Jim Rome radio show and answered questions regarding the Alistair Overeem situation. It was a nice surprised to get some new information on a situation that Dana has been pretty closed lip about.

It was in some ways most surprising that the UFC President had not heard about the outcome of Overeem’s hearing until the interview itself. With that being said Dana has been traveling a lot, he went from Brazil to Los Angeles, and then was heading to Vegas within a two day window.

Below is a part of the interview where Jim Rome wasted no time getting to the Alistair Overeem situation;

Jim Rome: Dana Alistair Overeem failed a random drug test for elevated testosterone last month. The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended him for 9 months. What was your reaction when you first heard it?
Dana White: Actually I didn’t hear it until you just told me right this second.

Rome:
You don’t know that story?
White: I’m in Los Angeles. I was in Brazil yesterday with Anderson Silva. I landed at 4 in the morning. I flew like 22 hours yesterday. I flew down to Miami and then to Rio and back to L.A. So it’s the first I’d heard that. I knew he was going before the Commission but I didn’t know what happened.

Rome:
So what is your reaction to that?
White: I wasn’t very optimistic about his chances. I didn’t think things were going to turn out very well for him. So as expected. 9 months? 9 months isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

Rome:
What did you expect?
White: I thought he’d get a year, easily a year.

Rome: So he blamed it on elevated levels of anti-inflammatory meds he was taking at the time.
White: Here’s the rules. If that’s the case, if he was on anti-inflammatory meds, whatever the deal was, you’re supposed to disclose that to the commission before the test whatever you’re taking. You’re supposed to disclose that to the commission before the test not after the test.

Rome: Am I allowed to say this Dana? It sounds like garbage.
White: I’m not a fan. I’m not a fan at all. You’re not going to hear me on your radio show defending Alistair Overeem believe me.

Rome:
So is that going to cost him his spot with your company?
White: I don’t know. We’ll see. We’ll see what happens man. You know he went before the commission and the commission gave him 9 months. I’m sure he’s going to have to go in and get tested again. Before he went in there he sat down to lunch with me and my partner looked us in the face and said ‘I’m the most tested athlete in all of sports they can test me whenever they want to.” Well he flew in for the press conference, they tested him and now he’s on a 9 month suspension.

Rome: Do you feel he lied to you?
White: I do yea. I know he lied to me.

Rome:
I’m guessing you don’t like guys lying to you Dana.
White: I don’t like it. You know you sit down and you have these guys that you do business with and you say let’s sit down, be honest with me and let’s figure out how we can work together. And then they sit there and lie to your face. I don’t know. Not the kind of guys I want to do business with.

Rome:
He may have been the most tested athletes in your sport but now he’s one of the most suspended athletes in your sport.
White: Yeah. So we’ll see what happens. I’ve been on the road non-stop. I just got into L.A. and I get into Vegas tonight. I don’t really know the full story of what went down but we’ll figure out what happens from here.

  1. danielrchargers says:

no shit, he is lying to Er’one.

  2. Xaninho says:

Yeah and DW is always telling the truth?

I still don’t understand why he’s buttbuddies with Sonnen. So if he’s only mad cause he thinks Overeem lied to him…What about Sonnen? Did Sonnen tell him upfront he was juicing? Did DW KNOW upfront Sonnen went in the Sonnen-Silva fight juiced up? If he didn’t know, shouldn’t he be just as mad at Sonnen?

    This is interesting…

    • Scotty says:

Its called Dana White is a business man before anything.. Sonnen brings in alot of money because he’s a self marketing machine.. What Sonnen says is all an act because it gets people to watch the fight and he makes more money! Dana loves that, so why would he get rid of Sonnen? Overeem comes back in 9 months and the UFC wont even look at it again unless he gets caught again.. Why? Cause Overeem will bring in money. Its all about money, its a business!

    • Rod says:

There’s a difference between being juiced and just abusing TRT.. Overeem looks hella juiced.. Sonnen doesn’t, because his elevated levels were due to over-use of TRT.. (Which is legal when used correctly) This is why sonnen can still fight, and it was already disclosed when he was diagnosed with what he has that he would be on TRT.. He just went way over the limit and failed the test. Those are two completely different things..

      • shotua says:

ooohh reeallyy.. Chael was 16:1 AFTER a fcking title fight he almost won. wtf do you mean its 2 different things. The same accusations Reem gets for masking PEDs can be made for Chael.. oh but Chael went through the right ‘channels’ he seems to get a pass. GTFOH

      • Xaninho says:

Difference? They both had eleveated testosterone levels. Sonnen’s 16:1 were HIGHER than Overeem’s 14:1…… wtf are you talking about?

And take a good look at the Sonnen who fought Silva and the Sonnen who fought Bisping dude. See the difference?

And furthermore Sonnen didn’t disclose properly, he lied about it. Sonnen had perjured himself during a testimony to the CSAC (California State Athletic Commission) by stating that it was his understanding that he was approved for therapeutic exemption by the NSAC in 2008, and had even spoken directly to Kizer about his therapeutic exemption. Keith Kizer would later respond to these claims by stating he had “never talked to Chael Sonnen in his life”, refuting Sonnen’s story.

Two completely different things my ass!

        • Hjortur Halldorsson says:

I see the difference… Sonnen was more shredded in the Bisping fight, so I blame it on too much dehydration for that fight :-D

Sorry Xaninho I had to say something to stand up for my man Cheat Sonnen

        • Xaninho says:

lol sorry bro I don’t call that shredded. I call that juiceless. ;)

        • Hjortur Halldorsson says:

Haha ok mate, you might have a point :-D But I seriously doubt that Sonnen didn’t abuse his TRT in preparing for the Munoz fight, because Munoz is a great fighter.

      • lorenzo says:

if u take roids u dont look like ronnie coleman u big dum bitch. there are literally hundreds of different steroids that perform in different ways for athletes to achieve different goals, then there are hundreds of masking agents to hide these substances from tests. Bodybuilders starting out take decadurabolin, fighters take stanazolo or furazabolin, cyclists take clenbuterol, the list goes fucken on.

    • Chinny says:

Sonnen tested positive after Dana raked in all the cash from the fight.. He could care less then.

  3. karrdiak says:

Did everybody really forgot about Chael ???

  4. Gomi says:

“He may have been the most tested athletes in your sport but now he’s one of the most suspended athletes in your sport.”

ONE OF THE MOST SUSPENDED ATHLETES IN YOUR SPORT?

DID HE REALLY JUST SAY THAT?

    WOW, JUST WOW!

  5. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

So none of y’all have lied in a job interview?

    • Xaninho says:

Not really, oh yeah I did leave out the fact I was a muay thai practitioner and fighting in competition.

Most employers are afraid their employees get injured in martial arts competitions.
