Just Scrap Radio Ep. 2 | Marloes Coenen Talks Fights, PEDs, Cyborg, Overeem
Invicta FC headliner Marloes Coenen talks about her fight this Saturday – April 28, 2012 7pm central time.
“Invicta is the next evolution for MMA. I’m Really excited.”
The Just Scrap Radio host Jens Pulver brings up Marloes Coenen’s last fight in Strikeforce where she dominated during the stand up but opponent Misha Tate’s wrestling took over the fight. He continues on to ask….
“What have you done to make your wrestling better?”
Private classes with Eric Akin at East Kansas Wrestling opened her eyes to understand how complex the sport is.
“I think it will be hard to take me down and kick me on the ground now.”
The former Bantamweight Strikeforce Champion speaks out on PEDs specifically Cristaine “Cyborg” Santos and former teammate Alistair Overeem.
“Speaking of buff girls – not stepping on any toes. Obviously someone you’ve had experience in the ring with. Just wanted to ask about your thoughts about Chris Cyborg’s recent tests and the results obviously of that test.”
“Yeah a lot of people actually asked me when that happened but also when she was caught I already knew about it already – it wasn’t out yet. I really felt like she was down and out. I’m not gonna kick her when somebody’s on the ground. You just don’t do that when you have a heart.
But when I was in the cage I cannot remember the fight too good. One thing I still know – I can’t recall the pain anymore but okay the next time I’m fighting this girl the guys really really have to beat me up because otherwise it will be – her strength is so ridiculous. I’m a strong girl and I know when I’m fighting the dudes ….but with her I was nothing. And everything I did was nothing – I hit her on head with a left hook and I went to a hand specialist after that because it hurt for more than a half year and it didn’t do anything to her.
“Yeah if you do stuff like that and you get caught just like Alistair now. Suck it up and don’t complain about it. I think the truth will always come out.”
Pulver mentions international/intercontinental random drug testing. Both talk of the simultaneous hearing with the Nevada Sate Athletic Commission and Alistair Overeem as the interview goes on. Host Jens Pulver asks, ”How did that affect Golden Glory?”
“Well you know, Alistair isn’t with Golden Glory anymore and when everything happened – I got cut of course because they negotiate for Alistair . We sacrifice a lot for Alistair. We did that because you help each other out and Alistair would help me out as well. Then he left the management. That’s his decision and I think everybody can do whatever they want and if he left his trainer his long time trainer at the time. That’s something I thought that’s less good but if you want to leave him as well go ahead but then if you’re gonna talk in media all this non sense and make everybody in the team look bad you know you stabbed them in the back.
We know a lot of things about Alistair but we never talk about it because we knew the truth would come round and there’s still this court thing going on with Golden Glory and Alistair and if that goes to court then more dirt will come out. I believe if you do good things. Good things will happen to you that’s why I do not want to talk too negative about him because I think we should focus on some positive energy and Alistair will receive his punishment for what he has done and we don’t have to deliver it because karma will get you. That’s how I feel about it.”
Jens Pulver relates to the suspicion that clouded around the Miletich Camp due to former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Silvia getting popped for PEDs.
“The public should take responsibility as well. They want to see big guys and I mean the bigger the better and there’s a lot of money that can be made so you know those guys only have one shot at a career and it’s easy to take those steps it’s what people want to see it’s what’s happening in baseball right? With all that…. How many years was that a go? You see it in every sport that people are using that stuff and when they get caught the audience turns around and starts hating on them and at the end it is what the audience wants as well so if you wanna have a clean sport as an audience then you should demand less of the athletes as well.”
You can watch the fight live on www.invictafc.com This Saturday April 28, 2012 7pm central time.
Marloes Coenen ends the interview by stating
“This will be my1st fight since my loss. I’m very hungry. I love submissions but prefers KOs.”
