Diaz NSAC Hearing Over | Suspended For 12 Months Fined 30%

Today the Nevada State Athletic Commission heard the case of Nick Diaz.

In February Nick fought and lost against Carlos Condit for the UFC’s interim welterweight title. In the post-fight drug screening Diaz was found to have marijuana metabolites in his system and as a result has been put under fire as a rule violator.

After a lengthy stint of legal back and forth the two sides met today in Nevada to determine the fate of Mr. Diaz.

A brilliant defense was presented to the commission. One that brought expert testimony that refuted the interpretation of the rules and had it been a court of law, I have no doubt that based on the testimony Diaz would have been found innocent.

The real issue is whether or not Nick was using a banned substance in competition. The state of Nevada could not prove that Nick was using during his fight, but the defense could not prove against it either.

It was a lengthy hearing, the two sides argued the rulebook and facts of the case back and forth. However the NSAC is their own judge and jury and as a result are not liable to answer to anyone other than their own interpretation of the rules.

In the end Nick Diaz will not be able to compete in the State of Nevada until February 2013. He received a 12-month suspension and was fined 30% of his fight purse and bonus money.

they sure fucked diaz hard , then at the end they laughed literally laughed

    • CALI says:

FUCK the Nevada State Athletic Commission

      • Jodog says:

If it wasn’t for the nsac there wouldn’t even be fighting. No other state would allow fighting a few years ago. Fuck all wiening pro athletes, if they can’t follow simple rules then be a bum like the rest of us!! They’re treated too good so they could at least act like they are worth it.

        • Jodog says:

I get that he wants to get high, who doesn’t, but when I break the rules and get caught I pay the price. He knows the rules. I used to be a huge Diaz fan, but all he’s proved is that he belongs on the streets of Stockton, fighting cuz he’s a thug. He’s no professional athlete!!!

        • T says:

A thug??? Diaz is ten times the person you
Will ever be. He does more with his life in one week then you will do in a lifetime. Who are you to judge a man that has given everything to his family and community an saved his mother and brother from poverty and jail through MMA. Oh he LEGALLY smokes weed to help him deal with his adhd and that makes him a thug??? Fuck you kid.

        • Mayor of Deviance says:

I agree. If he wants to be a professional fighter he needs to act like one and give up weed when hes about to fight.

And T don’t be retarded and think that ADHD is a good reason to legally get high. It’s an excuse to get a doctor’s note fool. I have ADHD and get high all the time, but there’s no way in hell I think a doctor should ethically give me a note for it.

  2. joe says:

    Wtf this some nonesence.
Its not like he was high fighting.

Fuck them they cant prove anything and still 12 months .

they put him fighting in mma at risk.
    Like its personal.

    Diaz brothers has fighter scared!

    • GET RID OF BAD GRAMMAR (forever) says:

What the fuck did i just read? I mean what the fuck?

      • retard says:

stop complaining about grammar just because you have nothing better to say you tool

      • Popp24 says:

It’s typical Diaz fans who can’t write in complete sentences that are angered over this. He can still fight in other states so it’s not the end of the world. Didn’t he say he was retiring any ways? Or was that just a little tantrum after he lost to Condit.

        • stewbot says:

The suspension will carry over and be honored in all other comissions in North America. The UFC won’t likey schedule him in a bout either until his suspension is over, simply to stay on good terms with the NSAC and to show that they have no tolerance on anyone breaking rules or show favoritism towards any particular fighter.

      • Bobby Larson says:

Another fuckin word u low life fuck and I’m gonna kick u so far up ur ass u won’t know what the fuck grammar means pussyboy !

    • Ordboy says:

I how could smoking weed be cheating ? Im Swedish so f u and ur grammar would like to see you type in swedish! kuksugare

  3. stevo the great says:

Damn he is not gonna be able to fight before the Apocalypse…….

  4. CHRIS says:

f nevada doesnt mean that other states wont allow him to fight. War Diaz you have all your fans behind you!!!!!

  5. mike r says:

Bullshit ruling, The state of Nevada could not prove that Nick was using during his fight, there fore they can not find his guilty. Just like in a a murder trial if you cant prove a person commit the crime regardless of the presentation of defense they charge would have to be dismissed.

    • Martin Lopez says:

he doesn’t have to be caught using during the fight, it’s a part of the licensing process. Just like Overeem wasn’t caught using during a fight. There’s a list of “do not use” items. One of them is Apsrin….it’s fucking simple. You want your license stay off the banned items.

    • Yea, only its not a court of law and they don’t need a level of proof that fits your definition. They can suspend if they see fit for however long. I mean, if its on the ban list then expect to be punished when they find it in your system.

  6. JoeR. says:

Act like a douchey bitch and you shall be slapped down like one. Score one for the NSAC.

  7. Mike says:

Steroids? No problem, just go TRT.

Marijuana via prescription, YEEEHAH, BREAK OUT THE FIRING SQUAD, WE GOT OURSELVES A STONER. So lame.

    • mike r says:

you must be confused. TRT is the misplacement of ORGANIC hormones in a legal treatment using ORGANIC hormones. To put into simple terms for simple minded people like your self its replacing androgen hormones that your body naturally produces. Steroids are drugs that mimic the effects of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone in the body, mainly synthesized. Shooting up roid and getting TRT are two different things because when you test some one for both, for TRT you only can detect raised levels of testosterone with out substances, with steroids you can trace both in a test…… again for simple minded people like yourself i will use an analogy TRT is like getting a heart transplant from a human donor and steroids is like getting a transplant from a gorilla.

      • mike r says:

        replacement of ORGANIC ***

      • Pijan says:

If you can’t naturally compete, you shouldn’t be competing. TRT should be just as illegal as steroids and weed. If you’re using TRT to get back to normal levels, then it gives you just about the same advantage as weed does.

        • naru says:

what the fuck is naturally compete. how is hiring a trainer, a dietitian any different. if anything, get two people who has no fighting knowledge and no experience and have them fight. that’s as “natural” as it can get.

        • Nuitari X says:

  8. Us true fans got Diaz’s back no matter what! Hall of Fame for sure… Don’t worry bro, at the end, when u kick everyone’s ass again, with championship belts in hand… U get the last laugh!

  9. GreenThumb210 says:

nice going NSAC give a guy 12 months for having metabolites in his system and 10 months to a roider with testosterone of 14 men

  10. birdcitybutcher says:

NSAC are a bunch of fascist pigs. didn’t tyson griffin fail his drug test for marijuana metabolites and he didn’t get shit. I’m getting to a point where I’m abouut to say fuck ufc. Shits turning into a joke

  11. Caveman says:

Nevada state athletic commission seems to go on guilty till proven innocent

  12. Nick says:

Sooo did Diaz sue NSAC or did they no address it this hearing??

  13. Mr Groove says:

Wasn’t it supposed to be 9 months? Correct me if I’m wrong.

12 months is kinda a long time for marijuana compared to some fighters that appealed and got their 12 months down to as low as 6 months. NSAC system reminds me of Roger Goodell and his system he has…no rhyme or reason.

  14. Laura says:

I wish we would just legalize marijuana; I’m not a fan of using it, but the legal penalties are way overblown; seems it should be controlled in a manner similar to alcohol. I like watching Diaz fight so this is disappointing.

  15. Curtis says:

Drinking and driving, Steroids – No Problem

    Using marijuana legally- Fucked

  16. Holly says:

Since when was marijuana a performance enhancing drug? Nevada has legal prostitutes, but smoking weed is wrong…double standard.

  17. Sue says:

I’m not much of a Diaz fan, but have to admit this is kind of silly. Marijuana is not a performance enhancing drug. If anything it’s the opposite. Still he knew that he could be tested, and should have cleaned up prior to the fight. I think he’s just scared of fighting St. Pierre! (I’m kidding, but you know Diaz would say that if the situation were reversed)

  18. Noel says:

I understand that a banned substance is exactly that and therefore no matter what it is you have no-one else but yourself to blame.
However surely a bit of marijuana is in no way on the level of roids/trt so there should be a ‘class of ban’ relevant to the the substance!?
About the UFC and other organisations had a say in the ‘banning rules’ not in individual cases but in overall guidelines! 12 month for weed is bollocks but a guess thats just my opinion!

  19. J_Weezy says:

So because he wasn’t fighting high its oi? Bs so if a fighter used ped before a fight but not during that’s ok? Stop but hugging diaz!

  20. Mike says:

The only person that screwed Diaz is himself. He’s too damn stupid and arrogant to realize that he has to abide by the same rules as the rest of the fighter’s. Diaz lost to Conditions and his nut hugger fans can’t even admit he lost. It is better for him because GSP would have really embarrassed Diaz.

    • T says:

You are literally too stupid to make fun of. Who claimed an “injury” when it came down to a fight between Diaz and GSP??? GSP of course, and DIAZ is afraid? And he lost to Condit??? How do you win a fight by running away the entire time? Diaz was the aggressor and won 1, 2, and 5 easily. Go kill yourself please, the world is already to full of idiots.

  21. stephen Riddle says:

    Super fight in stockton!

  22. Justen says:

That’s bulls***. What are a**holes gunna say when weeds finally legalized?

  23. Fedor says:

It’s like the commission was upset that he tried to defend himself and brought in a lawyer. Like they were upset he had a legitimate chance of proving his case. 12 months is a disgrace. Didn’t Overeem get 9 months? 12 months is basically not allowing him to make a living. I’m not a huge Nick Diaz fan but 12 months is honestly too harsh.

  24. skeva says:

motherfucking assholes wtf?!?i mean seriously this is the worst biased decision from their part in their recent history!!!on what account can they overlook that he has prescribed drug, that he had stoped using it 8 days prior to fight as required in sport regulations, and who are they to negate other states laws, plus where is the court order, they are in a legal process arent they?!?this is a way of pressuring nick and flexing their muscles showing him whos boss FUCK THEM,IF THERE IS AN ACCOUNT TO HELP OUT NICKS LEGAL DIFFICULTIES IM IN FOR IT!!!

  25. Omar says:

Can someone explain to me why a guy who claims to eat HORSE to look like a HORSE gets a lighter suspension than Diaz?

  26. Jodog says:

Mma is getting boring anyway. Way too many decisions that nobody pays to see. Legalize marijuana? All fighters should have to be on drugs. We watch it for the gladiator shit and now it’s becoming a sport anyone can do. Let’s get back to the real UFC and see how tuff Diaz is.

    • T says:

Go bury your head in a toilet and dont come up till everything turns white.

      • Jodog says:

Toilet! Is that what T stands for? Sorry, I thought it stood for TURD cuz all the shit that comes out of your mouth. How ironic that you talk like you’re suckin Diaz dick and the only thing that comes out of your mouth is shit! You can have the last word cuz I’m done with you. Good luck being the fuckhead you are. TURD!!!!!!

        • T says:

A turd? Lol brilliant comeback. Take a rope, tie it around your neck. With the other end, tie it around a tall tree branch. Ok now JUMP!

        • T says:

Ohh no not a turd!!! Omg what ever will I do?
Do us a favor and take an 8 ft. rope, tie one end around your neck, the other around a tall tree’s branch- now JUMP!

  27. A.James says:

If they couldn’t prove he used then they need to leave his money alone. Professional thievery.

  28. Pancho says:

This is fuckin whack. It’s not like marijuana is a performance enhancer anyway

  29. slacker says:

Yet another disappointing showing by Diaz. No different set of rules for him. Maybe one day he will learn. He’s lucky. At least his suspension is retro – active. Only 8 months left.

  30. Caveman says:

The only thing I question is if it threatens your livelihood and threatens what you love doing why would you even it by doing something like this

    • Whoa says:

questions your livelihood!? when’s the last time you heard of anyone dying from a marijuana-related accident??
Then you have all these other fighters who are driving around in sports cars, drunk as fuck, putting not only their lives BUT other people’s lives at risk. Yet, you won’t hear about any type of suspension for them… why?

Because we are in the United States of America. Where most laws just don’t make SENSE.

      • Caveman says:

Livelihood could mean a mesns if securing the necessities of ones life so when I said that I meant why would he put in danger his job as fignter in the UFC which helps him make the money that he says he doesnt mske enough of. I apologize if there was any confusion

  31. jones says:

and they take 30% including his bonus,,.thats bullshit,,,sonnen gets 6 months for roids…even nate marqut got less,,,and reem roid machine..this is crazy

  32. Michael hamlin says:

    Pot head!!!

  33. Jonas says:

Pot cots alot ehh! One might just question how it can be ever worth getting high at the cost of this?

  34. Chartmonster says:

2 time loser.. One against NBK and second against NSAC both times Diaz got head kicked! Lmao

    • GET RID OF FITCH ( forever) says:

How can friggen Pot be worse than ROIDS? This is a total joke and a OUTRAGE. No wonder most of MMA fighters are JUICING

  35. BIG GOOSE says:

Hey, if you can’t follow the rules, then you don’t deserve to fight! Oh well, pinche marijuano!

  36. 2 cool says:

    >> <<

  37. The outlaw says:

Everyone here acts like they have never smoked weed. Fucking hypocrites!!!

  38. Mach00man says:

…”The state of Nevada could not prove that Nick was using during his fight, but the defense could not prove against it either.”…That’s a stale mate if I’ve ever seen one. If nothing could be proven, then why suspend him? Dana White is the new Don King!
