3 Questions to Ask Yourself about GSP vs. Hendricks

This weekend’s UFC 167’s main event features a marquee match-up in Johny Hendricks vs. current UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre. Johny is being described as the only real challenger left with the potential to beat GSP. What do you think his chances are? I would recommend asking yourself the following three questions before you make the call.

Do you believe the hype about Johny Hendricks?

I do. Johny is a finisher more often than not. Maybe he didn’t finish Condit, but he was looking for it and fought around the onslaught of the “Natural Born Killer”. Johny puts periods on the end of sentences. It goes like this usually: Big. Left. Hand. If he lands that good night GSP and Hendricks is the new champ. Oh, and he happens to be a phenomenal wrestler by the way in case you missed the 1000 articles on it since he joined the UFC.

How much does GSP himself believe the hype?

If you are the UFC Welterweight champion you have seen the destructive force of Johny Hendricks and his left hand. Amir Sadollah, Charlie Brenneman, TJ Waldburger, Jon Fitch, and Martin Kampmann have all fallen to the power of Hendricks. He is a beast and I don’t care who you are watching film of him smashing people is going to affect your outlook on the potential outcomes of the fight. GSP may say he isn’t concerned, but I bet you he really is. I would be.

Will this go the distance?

If it does I believe the decision will go to GSP and here’s why. GSP is the bigger fighter and arguably the stronger of the two in terms of natural strength. Johny is going to be throwing around a bigger fighter and if you have grappled with less or equally skilled guys who weight more than you – well, you know the deal. You get worn out because technique is great, but when someone else has the answer and you are covered by a human blanket who won’t budge it’s a long night. Johny needs to finish early or he doesn’t stand a chance against GSP’s cardio.

  1. UFC 84 Forever says:

Last point is highly questionable. Hendricks is a life long farm boy and wrestler, he cuts 40 lbs to make welterweight while GSP cuts about half of that. Hendricks is the bigger fighter, that’s where his KO power comes from.

  2. Sasquatch says:

WTF.. Hendricks is bigger and stronger.

  3. maddkillah says:

    GSP wins by submission

  4. GRT 3000 says:

GSP picks him apart and make him look like amateur hamburger.
