Officer Matt Grice, a UFC featherweight fighter, was hospitalized Sunday night following a serious car accident in which his car was struck from behind while he was stopped at a red light. Grice is now listed in critical condition following brain surgery.
Prior to the accident, Grice (15-5) was set to fight Jeremy Larsen at UFC 166 in October. With just over a month before the fight, the UFC may find Larsen a last-minute replacement.
Grice has made a recent comeback to the UFC. Between 2007 and 2009, Grice fought to a 1-3 record in the organization before returning to the regional circuit. More recently, however, Grice won a unanimous decision against Leonard Garcia at UFC on FX3, and despite losing a split decision to Dennis Bermudez at UFC 157, the Oklahoma City police officer earned ‘Fight of the Night’ honors for the three round battle.
