Roy “Big Country” Nelson Signs New Nine Fight Contract with the UFC

Detractors of one of MMA’s most recognizable fighters, both for his prominence inside the cage and unique look outside of it, will seemingly have a lot more to complain about in the immediate- and distant- future.

Roy “Big Country” Nelson has just signed a reported nine-fight deal with the UFC, as told to MMA Junkie by Nelson’s manager, Mike Kogan. The new contract comes on the heels of a much-anticipated fight between Nelson and fellow heavyweight Daniel Cormier being finalized as the co-main event for UFC 166 on October 19 in Houston, TX; the rubber match between UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez and former champion Junior “Cigano” dos Santos will headline.

“I do have a new UFC contract. You could say that I’ll be fighting for the UFC for the rest of my life. The contract is that big,” Nelson told Bloody Elbow of his new deal. “You won’t see me fight anywhere else, unless the UFC goes under. I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.”

Nelson, one of the most polarizing figures in the UFC, has proven his worth in the heavyweight division if this deal is any indication. Despite past squabbles with UFC President Dana White, Nelson’s ability to entertain the crowd with both his fighting skills and personality have clearly attributed to his signing on the dotted line.

What are your thoughts, Penn Nation? Are you excited to see more of “Big Country” inside the Octagon?
