Jake Shields vs Tyron Woodley Matchup Rumored for UFC 161 | UFC NEWS

A welterweight matchup between Jake Shields and Tyron Woodley is in the works for a UFC card this summer. Details about the card, such as the name, are still not clear. Most likely, the event will be UFC 161 on June 15 in Canada. The host city is yet to be announced.
Jake Shields, the former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion, will be returning from a 6-month suspension issued after testing positive for a banned substance for his fight against Ed Herman.
Tyron Woodley made his UFC debut earlier this month earning an impressive first-round KO of Jay Hieron. Prior to entering the UFC, Woodley was on a tear in the Strikeforce welterweight division, defeating the likes of Andre Galvao, Paul Daley and more. The Missouri wrestler’s sole loss comes from a fourth round TKO at the hands of Nate Marquardt in a fight for the Strikeforce belt.
This fight poses an intriguing stylistic match. Both fighters are strong on the ground, Shields with his jiu jitsu and Woodley with wrestling. Also, both fighters are looking to make big statements in the division. For Shields, this fight could serve to show that he is still on top despite his absence for the last half of a year. Woodley will be looking to continue his momentum upon entering the UFC.
