EXCLUSIVE | Manny Gamburyan on Recent Controversial Win Over Cole Miller: “100% I Won That Fight” | Late Night Cage Side Radio
| Following his recent win over Cole Miller at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston, UFC featherweight competitor Manny Gamburyan joined our crew over at BJPenn.com’s Late Night Cage Side Radio to talk about his recent victory and the controversy that now surrounds it. He also touched on a few other MMA topics ranging from his longtime relationship with Ronda Rousey, to when and who he would like to fight next in the UFC. Here are some of the highlights from Manny Gamburyan’s interview on BJPenn.com’s Late Night Cage Side Radio:
Manny was first asked to comment on his recent win against Cole Miller at UFC Fight Night 26, which is now being appealed by Miller because of seemingly illegal elbows that landed on Gamburyan at the end of the first round. No penalties were given but Manny was given extra time to recover. Miller, who ended up losing the decision, is now upset that Gamburyan was allowed extra time to recover in between rounds following the illegal elbows, which he feels were not illegal. Manny was asked what his take on the situation was.
“I watched it a couple of times already and I’m not trying to act stupid or anything but it was clearly to the back of my head and they didn’t even take off a point or anything like that. But, like I said, I’m not going to bitch out so it’s all cool. As long as I know it was the back of my head, I was kind of dazed for a minute, I couldn’t find my rhythm for a minute because, the back of the head, that shit really hurts.”
Miller has since been on a few radio shows explaining that he is appealing the loss to Manny and, regardless of the elbows, feels that he still won the fight. Manny was asked to comment and he replied, “He really thinks he won the fight, huh?”
“I guarantee, 100% I won the fight. I don’t know what the hell he’s talking about.”
“I don’t even want to give him a rematch or anything like that because, it doesn’t sound right, but who he is. He’s no one.”
Gamburyan was then asked when he would like to fight next. He quickly responded, “I want to be on the TUF 18 Finale, November 30th. I’m hoping I’ll be on that card.”
He then explained that he had helped his longtime friend Ronda Rousey coach the show and stated that was the main reason for him wanting that date for his return. He explained, “I was on it for six weeks with Ronda Rousey. I love those kids, I love fighting with crazy guys and crazy girls. I want to be on that card,” “I’m trying to be the main event, headline the show with a top contender. That would be awesome.”
Manny was then asked to comment on his longtime friendship with UFC bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey. He stated, “We’ve always been together, we’ve always trained together, we know each other head to toe.”
“We both care about each other,” he said,“[we’re] long time friends.”
He continued talking about Rousey’s skills as a fighter:
“She can handle everyone, I promise you. Ronda Rousey is a beast. Not only because I train with her, but she’s a different level. She’s a different level athlete.”
Manny was also asked to update the fans on what his cousin, Karo Parisyan, was currently up to. He replied, “He’s training right now, training hard for a fight in Bellator, or anywhere else. Whoever makes a call, he’s ready to go.”
Manny, Rousey, and Parisyan all have a Judo background to build their MMA games off of and Gamburyan was then asked to comment on his background and respect for Judo. He stated, “Judo is an Olympic art, it’s a legit sport, and I’m honored to be a part of the Judo organization, representing Judo in the UFC.”
“I started Judo when I was 10 years old and I still believe Judo is the hardest sport I’ve ever done in my life.”
The conversation shifted back to Gamburyan’s next focus and he was asked who he would like to fight in his next bout. Without hesitance he replied, “I’d like to see Ricardo Lamas, Chad Mendes, or even Cub Swanson. That would be probably the top three guys.”
He also commented on all the talks of him being an injury-prone fighter. He was asked if he agreed with those statements.
“No. 100% no,” he replied. “It comes with training hard. It’s part of the sport.”
He assured the fans here at BJPenn.com that he felt good and healthy following his win over Miller and is really gunning for his next fight to be at the TUF 18 Finale. He closed the interview by stating, “Hopefully November 30th I’ll be on the card and put on a good show for the fans.”
We would like to thank Manny Gamburyan for joining our crew over at BJPenn.com’s Late Night Cage Side Radio and we look forward to seeing him perform in his next bout, possibly on November 30th.
